Tax refund just direct deposited - 3/15 DDD - No advance fees deducted
Just checked my bank account and my tax refund hit literally 5 minutes ago! My direct deposit date was 3/15 so right on time. I was worried because I had chosen to have my tax prep fees taken from my refund but it looks like they didn't take anything out - I got the full amount! Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned or just take the win?

This is completely normal. When you choose to have your fees taken from your refund, the tax prep company usually sets up a temporary account. Your refund gets deposited there first, they take their fees, then send the remainder to your bank account. In your case, it looks like the system processed correctly - the fees were already taken before the money hit your account. That's why you received the exact amount shown on your tax transcript as your refund amount. You're all good!

•Oh that makes sense! I was expecting to see the full refund amount minus the prep fees, didn't realize they handled it separately. Thanks for explaining!

•This is exactly right. I used to work in tax prep. They create a temporary bank account (sometimes called a SBTPG account), take their cut, then forward the rest to you. Nothing to worry about.

•Same thing happened to me last year. I freaked out thinking I got someone else's refund amount by mistake. Turns out the preparer fees were already taken out before it hit my account.

Hey, I went through exactly this last month! Was super confused about my refund amount. If you want to actually understand what's happening with your refund and transcript without all the detective work, check out taxr.ai - it's been a game changer for me this tax season. It breaks down all the IRS codes and explains what's actually happening with your money in plain English. Saved me hours of googling weird IRS codes and trying to decipher what was happening with my return.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's seriously amazing! You upload your transcript and it analyzes all those confusing codes and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund - when you'll get paid, if there are delays, what they mean, etc. I was about to call the IRS for the 50th time before I found this. Best decision I made this tax season! https://taxr.ai

•I get the skepticism - I felt the same way! But unlike those generic calculators, this actually interprets your specific situation based on your transcript. Stopped me from panicking over normal processing codes that looked scary. Worth checking out!

After waiting 2 months with no movement on my refund, I finally got through to the IRS using the Claimyr app (claimyr.com). They called me back with an actual human IRS agent who explained everything. Turns out there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear up. Got my DDD 3 days later! Talking to someone directly saved me weeks of wondering what was happening.

•wait is this for real? nobody can get thru to the IRS... how much did it cost? sounds too good to be true tbh

•100% real - it basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through their system. Best money I ever spent after trying for 3 weeks to get through on my own. Got a callback within an hour and had my issue resolved in minutes.

•Just looked it up - seems like they use some kind of auto-dialer tech to get through the IRS phone tree? Anyone else tried this?

•Used it last week after being on hold for 2 hours and getting disconnected twice. Got a callback from an IRS agent in 45 minutes who fixed my issue. Wish I'd known about this months ago!

Congrats! Mine hit today too with same DDD. Always nice when the IRS actually delivers on time. One less thing to stress about!

This happened to me too! I was expecting $1,780 after the $220 tax prep fee, but got the full $2,000. Called my tax guy and he said the same thing others mentioned - they take the fee before sending to your bank. It's just not visible to you in the transaction.

•You paid $220 for tax prep?? 😱 I use FreeTaxUSA and pay like $15 for state filing. Federal is free.

•I have a small business plus rental property income. Trust me, $220 is worth every penny to make sure everything's done right and maximize deductions. My guy saved me way more than that.

•that makes sense. I just have a W2 so my taxes are super simple.

You lucky duck! I'm still stuck on delayed beyond normal timeframe 😠Filed 2/1 and nothing but crickets from the IRS. What day did you file?

Alejandro Castro
•I filed on 2/20 and got accepted same day. Maybe try checking your transcript if you can access it? That usually shows what's happening.

•My transcript has been N/A for weeks. I'm about to lose my mind. Did you claim EIC or anything that might delay processing?

Alejandro Castro
•No EIC for me, pretty straightforward return. Hope yours updates soon!

•Thanks. Im gonna try calling them next week if nothing changes.

I work in banking - this is 100% normal. When you opt to have fees taken from refund, your preparer routes the refund through a third-party bank first (usually Santa Barbara Tax Products Group or similar). They deduct their fees and then ACH the remainder to your account. On your bank statement, it'll show as coming from that third party, not directly from IRS Treasury.

•This is super helpful info! Does this also explain why sometimes there's a delay between the DDD and when we actually receive funds?
0 coins
Leslie Parker
•Exactly! The third-party bank can add 1-2 business days to the process since they're essentially a middleman. That's why people who pay their prep fees upfront (not from the refund) sometimes get their money faster - it comes straight from IRS to their bank.

Is anyone else's WMR still on the first bar even tho the money already hit ur account? Mine came today but WMR hasn't updated lol. IRS systems are so broken 🤡

•Same here! Got paid last Friday but WMR still says "processing" 🤣 I've learned to ignore WMR and just watch my bank account.

•IRS spending billions on "upgrades" but their systems still running on Windows 95 apparently 💀

This happened to my friend last week and it turned out to be a mistake. Two days later they withdrew the money back. I'd call your tax preparer to confirm everything is correct before spending it.

•Oh crap, really? That would be a nightmare. I'll definitely call them tomorrow to check!

Alice Pierce
•I doubt that's what's happening here. The system is designed to take fees first then deposit the remainder. What probably happened to your friend was an incorrect refund amount calculation, not a fee issue.

im still waiting for mine 😡 filed 1/29 accepted same day transcript shows 570 code for over a month now. the irs is the WORST

Ivanna St. Pierre
•570 code usually means they're reviewing something on your return. Have you tried checking your account transcript for any notices or letters they might have sent?

Esteban Tate
•no notices. nothing in the mail. called 5 times and cant get thru. this is ridiculous i need my money!

•I was stuck with a 570 code for 6 weeks before it finally updated. Hang in there! It's frustrating but they'll get to it eventually.

For those still waiting: I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript when I was confused about all the codes and delays. It explained everything so clearly and predicted my DDD correctly to the day. Saved me so much stress trying to figure out what was happening! https://taxr.ai

•does it cost money? i cant afford to spend anything right now while waiting for my refund

Atticus Domingo
•It does have a cost but it's reasonable for what you get - full analysis of your transcript and explanation of everything happening with your return. Way better than trying to google every code and still not understanding what's going on.

Pro tip: if you don't want to pay those advance fees next year, just pay for the tax prep upfront instead of taking it from your refund. The "convenience" of having it taken from your refund usually comes with an extra fee of $30-40 on top of the regular prep cost.

Morita Montoya
•This! I learned this the hard way. Paid $39.95 extra just to have the fee taken from my refund. Never again!

Alejandro Castro
•Thanks for the tip. I didn't realize they charged extra for that option. Will definitely pay upfront next year.

Anyone else notice refunds coming faster this year? I filed 3/1 and got mine on 3/12. Last year it took over a month!

Joy Olmedo
•Complete opposite for me. Filed 2/15 and still nothing. Last year I had my refund in 9 days.

•I think it depends on what credits you claim and if your return has any "review flags" that slow it down. Simple returns without EIC, CTC etc seem to process faster.
