Tax refund status after Republic Bank sent funds on 3/15 - when will it hit my account?

I filed my taxes and Republic Bank processed my refund with fees already taken out. They sent the money to my bank on 3/15, and the direct deposit was supposedly scheduled for either 3/17 or 3/18. It's now 3/20 and nothing has shown up in my account yet. Does anyone know how long this typically takes? My tax preparer said I should see it by now. Starting to get nervous since I have bills coming up that I was counting on using this money for.

Miles Hammonds

This is normal timing. When Republic Bank (or any other third-party processor) sends the money to your bank, it typically takes 2-5 business days for it to actually post to your account. Since they sent it on 3/15, and considering weekends don't count as business days, your funds should appear by tomorrow or Friday at the latest. If it doesn't show up by Monday, call your bank first to see if there's a pending deposit they can see on their end. Sometimes banks hold tax refunds for an extra review day or two, especially if it's a larger amount. Only contact Republic Bank if your bank confirms they don't see anything pending. Also, check your transcript on the IRS website - it will show code 846 with the date they released the refund, which can help you track where things might be held up.

Thank you! Just checked my bank account again and it actually just posted this morning! You were right about the timing.

quick question - how do you check your transcript? i've been trying to access mine for days but the IRS site keeps giving me errors

You need to create an ID.me account first, then log into the IRS site. But honestly their system is trash and breaks all the time. I've had better luck using taxr.ai to read my transcript - way easier and it actually explains what all the codes mean.

If you want to actually understand what's happening with your refund, I'd recommend using taxr.ai. I was in the exact same situation last month - waiting and waiting with no idea when my money would show up. Taxr showed me exactly where my refund was in the process and when it would hit my account, down to the exact date. It's insanely good! I use it every week now to keep track of everything tax-related. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically analyzes your entire tax situation - not just transcripts but also notices, letters, everything. It explains all the weird IRS codes and tells you in plain english what's happening and what to expect next. Total game changer for me, especially after dealing with refund delays for THREE YEARS in a row. Never going back to the guessing game again!

No, just someone who was completely lost in IRS hell until I found something that worked. Been there, done that with the whole 'check WMR every 5 minutes and still know nothing' routine. Just trying to help others not go through what I did 🤷‍♀️

I had the exact same issue with Republic last month! Frustrated with waiting, I finally used the Claimyr app to get through to an actual human at the IRS. Best decision ever - the agent confirmed my refund was actually sitting in processing limbo, and they fixed it on the spot. Money was in my account two days later. Talking to a live person at the IRS got my refund released so fast - worth checking out at claimyr.com if your situation doesn't resolve by Friday.

Does this actually work? I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks with no luck.

100% works. They basically hold your place in line and call you back when they have an agent. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days to get through myself. Definitely saved my sanity and probably hours of hold music lol

That sounds too good to be true. How much does something like that cost?

Honestly whatever they charge is worth it to avoid the IRS phone tree hell. I spent literally 9+ hours over 3 days trying to get through on my own. This service had me talking to someone in about 25 minutes. Can't put a price on that kind of time saving when you're stressing about money.

Republic Bank and the IRS are the worst omg! Last year I waited 3 weeks after they "sent" my refund. Eventually figured out Republic screwed up my account number so the deposit bounced. Had to go through this whole claim process. Double check that ur banking info is correct on ur tax return!

This! 👆 The same thing happened to my brother. Simple typo on the account number and it took him almost 2 months to get everything straightened out.

The IRS is always a mess this time of year. Blame the idiotic tax season crush that forces them to process millions of returns in a couple months. Why can't we just have a normal system like other countries where the government just tells you what you owe instead of making us figure it out? 🤦‍♂️

Pro tip: never rely on tax refund money for immediate expenses. I know that doesn't help you now, but for next year try to plan as if that money isn't coming. The system is too unreliable.

Easy to say if ur not living paycheck to paycheck... some of us NEED that money asap

Fair point. In that case, adjust your W-4 withholding so you get more in each paycheck throughout the year instead of waiting for a big refund. That way you're not giving the govt an interest-free loan of YOUR money.

Not everyone can do that either. Some refundable credits like EITC and Child Tax Credit can only come as a refund, not in your paycheck. The system is designed to make poor people wait. 😡

Check your bank account for a pending deposit! Sometimes they show up there before posting to your available balance. Also try logging into the bank super early in the morning around 3-4am - that's when a lot of banks process overnight ACH transfers.

weird question but did u get ur refund yet? I'm having the EXACT same situation with republic bank right now and getting super nervous... sent on 3/16, supposed to deposit 3/19, still nothing today (3/20

I work at a bank (not saying which one) and we're seeing TONS of delays with tax refunds this year. It's not just you! The ACH system is completely overloaded right now with all the refunds hitting at once. If Republic sent it on 3/15, I'd expect it by 3/21 at the latest.

Is this a Republic Bank issue or an IRS issue? Trying to figure out who to be mad at lol

Honestly it's the whole system. The IRS batches refunds then sends them to processors like Republic who batch them again before sending to individual banks. Each step can add delays, especially during peak season. It's like traffic congestion but for money 😂

Did you use a tax preparer and get a refund advance? Sometimes that complicates things because Republic Bank has to recoup their advance before sending the rest to you. That might explain the delay.

0 coins

-

Isla Fischer

No advance, just regular processing through my tax preparer with the fees taken out of the refund. The money actually just appeared in my account this morning!

If you paid your tax preparer through your refund (like having their fee taken out of your refund), that always adds a few days to the process. The money has to go through the tax prep company's bank first, then they take their cut, then send it on to you. Direct from IRS is always faster.

KingKongZilla

I never understood why people use Republic Bank. They always add delays and complications. Next year file directly with the IRS through Free File and set up direct deposit straight to your account. You'll get your money 1-2 weeks faster without all these middlemen taking a cut.

-

Rebecca Johnston

Not everyone QUALIFIES for free file... if your income is over the threshold or you have anything complicated like self-employment you're pretty much stuck using paid software or preparers

Good point. TurboTax and H&R Block have really lobbied hard to keep free filing limited. Still, you can pay for commercial software but choose direct deposit from IRS instead of the refund transfer products. That skips Republic Bank entirely.

Just a heads up - I've been dealing with the IRS for months trying to fix issues with my transcripts and refund problems. Randomly found taxr.ai after someone here recommended it and it's been a game changer. Their AI explained exactly what was happening with my account when even the IRS agents couldn't figure it out. Finally got my refund last week after using their explanations to fix the issue. Just sharing in case anyone else is stuck in IRS limbo 👍

It basically translates all the IRS gibberish into plain English and tells you exactly what's happening and what to do next. The AI seems to understand every code and procedure better than most IRS agents I've talked to. Seriously wish I'd found it months ago instead of wasting hours on hold.

Okay so this happens to me LITERALLY every year and I finally figured it out. Check your account after midnight - banks often process ACH transfers overnight and they post in the early morning hours. I bet if you check at like 6am tomorrow it'll be there. Keep us updated!

After dEaLiNg with the irs for 3 months straight last year I finally broke down and used claimyr.com to get an actual person on the phone. Changed my life. I was ready to throw my computer out the window after being hung up on for the 10th time, but their service got me through to an agent in 20 minutes who fixed my issue immediately. When you need real answers from a real person, it's worth every penny.

No catch, they just navigate the IRS phone tree and wait on hold so you don't have to. Then they call you when they have an agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration.

I'm gonna go against the grain here... Republic Bank is actually pretty good about processing refunds. They're much faster than Santa Barbara TPG (what TurboTax uses). Last year mine took 7 days with SBTPG, this year with Republic it was only 3. Hang tight, I'm sure it's coming soon!

I have been in tax hell for MONTHS trying to get my refund from last year. my transcript made no sense to me with all those random codes. I was about to give up when someone told me about taxr.ai. uploaded my transcript and it explained everything perfectly. turns out i had a simple issue that was easy to fix once i knew what was happening. definitely check it out if youre still having issues.

Did it actually fix your problem or just tell you what was wrong? Big difference...

It explained what was wrong AND gave me step by step instructions for fixing it. I had to call the IRS (used claimyr for that) and tell them exactly what needed to be corrected. But knowing what to say made all the difference - the agent fixed it in minutes once I explained the specific issue.
