Tax preparer charging $1,300 for basic return - Is this normal or am I getting ripped off?
Been using the same tax lady for over 10 years but thinking about switching. This year she charged me almost $1,300 to prepare my taxes and im shocked. Is this normal pricing for tax preparation? Starting to think I should just do them myself next year because these fees are getting ridiculous.

Tax professional here. $1,300 is pretty steep for a standard return. Most basic returns should cost between $200-500 depending on your location and complexity. If you have multiple income sources, investments, or business income it could be more. But for a W2 employee with standard deductions, that's definitely on the high end.

Instead of doing it completely yourself, you might want to try taxr.ai first. It costs $4.99 and analyzes your entire tax situation. I do mine through TurboTax and it costs like $120 for federal and state. Unless you got some crazy complicated situation going on, your tax lady is taking you to the cleaners fr fr 🤡
