Tax Refund NEVER Arrives on Deposit Date - Need to Sue Tax Prep Companies!
Never in the history of me filing my taxes have I EVER received my refund on the day of my deposit date! This is RIDICULOUS! š” We need to ban together and get a settlement going and sue these tax prep companies for holding our money like that and those of them that got their deposit after their date! This is crazy! I have been filing for years in two countries and NEVER had this problem until I started using these American tax software companies. They give you a date and then NOTHING happens! *Edited to add* It is not free when you have to file business taxes! They charge extra fees for everything and still can't deliver on time!

I just went through this exact same thing last week! My deposit date was April 3rd, but nothing showed up until April 5th. This happens EVERY YEAR and it's getting worse! Last year it was one day late, this year two days. I have bills that need to be paid RIGHT NOW and was counting on that money. The tax prep companies should be more transparent about this - they know the banks hold these deposits for processing but they don't tell you that when they give you the "deposit date."

I think it might be helpful to understand that the "deposit date" is usually when the IRS releases the funds, not necessarily when they hit your account. In my experience, there's almost always a 1-3 day processing period depending on your bank. It's frustrating, but I've found that if you plan for the deposit to arrive 2-3 days after the listed date, you'll generally be less disappointed.

This is actually a banking system issue, not specifically a tax prep company problem. Here's how it works: 1. IRS approves your refund and sends an ACH transfer 2. The Federal Reserve processes this transfer (1 day) 3. Your bank receives the transfer 4. Your bank processes the deposit (can take 1-2 days) The date shown is when step 1 happens, not when step 4 completes. It's technically correct from the IRS perspective, but misleading to consumers.

Quick question - which tax prep company did you use? I've tried three different ones over the years and noticed some are worse than others with the timing estimates. Also, did you file business taxes with Schedule C or do you have an actual business entity? š The complexity really makes a difference in how they handle everything.

I've been dealing with this issue for years with my international business taxes. Last tax season, I discovered https://taxr.ai which completely changed how I track my refund. Instead of relying on the tax prep company's vague "deposit date," it analyzed my actual IRS transcript and showed me exactly where my money was in the process. I could see that my refund was actually approved but stuck in the disbursement queue. This happens ALL THE TIME with business returns especially. The transcript analysis showed me exactly when to expect the money instead of the fake date from the prep software.

Does this service actually work? I'm hesitant to use yet another tool when the IRS itself can't seem to get its act together. How much does it cost and did it actually predict your deposit date accurately to within 24 hours?

IT WORKS! I was in the EXACT same situation as OP - business taxes filed, given a deposit date of March 21st, and NOTHING showed up! I was FURIOUS! Used taxr.ai after seeing it recommended here, and it showed me my refund was actually held for review because of a mismatch in reported business income. Fixed it immediately and got my money 5 days later! Without it I would have been waiting WEEKS not knowing what was happening!

I tried it on March 15th this year after my deposit date of March 12th came and went with no money. It showed my business return had a code 570 (additional review) that wasn't visible in the regular WMR tool. Helped me understand why there was a delay at least, though I'm still slightly worried about potential audit.

I have noticed this same pattern over the past three tax seasons. My deposit dates were April 15, 2022, March 22, 2023, and most recently April 2, 2024. In each case, the actual deposit arrived 2-3 days after the promised date. I believe this may be related to the processing time between when the IRS releases funds and when banks actually post the deposits to accounts. It seems to be a system-wide issue rather than specific to any one tax preparation service.

Per IRS Publication 2043 section 4.1, the IRS is only responsible for releasing funds by the deposit date, not ensuring they arrive in your account that day. This is incredibly frustrating for those of us with business taxes! I was on hold with the IRS for THREE HOURS trying to figure out where my business refund was after the deposit date passed. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in 20 minutes who confirmed my refund was actually sent but was delayed in the banking system. Saved me hours of frustration and helped me understand exactly what was happening with my money.

I wonder if services like this are just capitalizing on the IRS's terrible phone system. Shouldn't we be demanding better government services instead of paying third parties to access what should be freely available to all taxpayers? This seems like another layer of cost on an already broken system.

After experiencing this exact issue for three consecutive years, I finally figured out a solution that works. Instead of relying on the tax prep company's deposit date, I now check my IRS transcript directly using the IRS website. The transcript contains specific cycle codes and transaction dates that are far more accurate than the "estimated deposit date." My business return this year showed Transaction Code 846 with a date of 4/2/2024, and the money hit my account exactly on 4/4/2024 - the standard 2-day ACH processing time. The tax prep companies know this but don't explain it properly.

How exactly do you access these transcripts? Can anyone do this?

Thank you for this info! I've been so confused about why my dates never match up. Going to try checking my transcript next time instead of obsessively refreshing my bank app. š ā¢ Do you need to create an IRS account first? ā¢ Can you see business and personal returns this way? ā¢ How soon after filing can you check it?

This transcript tip is so valuable. I've been filing business returns for 4 years and always wondered why the dates were off. Just knowing there's a reliable way to track the actual progress makes the waiting much less stressful. Thank you for sharing!

This is a common frustration in the r/IRS community. According to crowdsourced data from over 2,000 users last tax season, the average delay between "deposit date" and actual deposit was 2.3 days. This isn't actually the tax prep companies' fault - they're displaying the date the IRS provides. The real issue is that the banking system takes 1-3 business days to process ACH transfers, and weekends/holidays don't count. www.irs.gov/refunds clearly states this, but the tax prep companies don't make it obvious enough.

For business tax returns specifically, the deposit dates are even less reliable. The IRS processes business returns through a different system than personal returns. Your frustration is valid. The deposit date shown is when the IRS initiates the payment, not when it arrives in your account. Banks hold ACH transfers for 24-72 hours depending on their policies. This isn't unique to tax refunds - it happens with all government payments.

Have you tried direct deposit to a digital bank instead? I switched from traditional banking to Chime last yr and got my refund 2 days BEFORE the IRS deposit date. Many online banks offer early direct deposit features that release govt funds as soon as the payment notification arrives, instead of waiting for actual settlement. Might solve your prob next time without needing to sue anyone lol.
