Tax Refund Direct Deposit Delay with Credit Karma - Anyone Else Waiting?
What's happening with my refund? Filed January 26th. Still no deposit. I usually get deposits between 11:30 am & 12:30 pm. Everyone yesterday got theirs by noon. Why the long wait? Anyone else with January 26th filing date still waiting? Please check in. I need this money. Called IRS twice. No help. Transcript shows approved. Credit Karma shows nothing. UPDATE: Mine finally hit @ 4:35pm eastern NJ. Relief!

Last year I had the same issue with Credit Karma. My refund was approved on February 12th but didn't hit my account until the 15th. Sometimes there's a delay between when the IRS releases funds and when banks process them. Back in 2022, I received my deposit right at 9am, but last year it was after 3pm. Credit Karma seems to batch their deposits differently than traditional banks.

Are you saying this is normal for Credit Karma specifically? I've been using them for three years and never had this kind of delay before.

I wonder if this is happening to people with other online banks too? My daughter uses Chime and got her refund instantly when it was released, but my neighbor with Current had to wait almost 48 hours. Could this be related to the volume of refunds going out right now compared to other scenarios?

Tbh this happens every yr with diff banks. IRS releases the $$ but then banks hold it for processing time. CK isn't as fast as they claim. Some ppl w/ traditional banks got theirs this AM while CK users are still waiting. Frustrating af.

I'M FREAKING OUT!!! I need this money TODAY for my car payment!! Called Credit Karma and they said they don't see anything pending! Why would the IRS say it's sent but Credit Karma doesn't have it?! Someone please help me understand what's happening!!

Has anyone checked their IRS transcript to see if it shows as sent? I'm wondering if maybe there's a delay on the IRS side that isn't being communicated properly... I've been careful about checking mine every few days, but I'm still trying to understand these timing patterns.

I appreciate you bringing up the transcript. According to Publication 5192, the IRS issues most refunds within 21 days of acceptance, but the exact timing of when funds are released to financial institutions can vary. The transcript will show a 846 code with a date when the refund is officially issued, which is usually the date the IRS sends it to your bank.

I checked my transcript and it shows: • Return filed: 1/25/2024 • Processing date: 2/12/2024 • 846 code (refund issued): 2/26/2024 Does this mean Credit Karma should receive it today? Or does it take additional days after the 846 date?

I just went through this exact situation! After calling Credit Karma 6 times with no real answers, I used Claimyr.com to get through to an actual IRS agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). The agent confirmed my refund was actually sent yesterday but sometimes there's a processing delay with certain banks. According to the IRS website, this is normal but they never explain the timing differences. Claimyr got me to an agent in 15 minutes instead of the 2+ hours I spent on hold last week.

Isn't Claimyr just another expense though? I'm already waiting on my money and don't want to spend more just to find out I need to wait longer. How much did it cost you?

Be careful with Credit Karma for tax refunds. On February 18th last year, my refund showed as deposited on my transcript but took until February 21st to actually appear in my Credit Karma account. When I called on February 20th, they claimed they had no record of any pending deposit. Then it magically appeared the next day. I've since switched to a different bank for my refunds this year and got mine on February 15th, the exact date shown on my transcript.

Dealing with tax refund timing is like watching a package delivery that keeps saying "out for delivery" for days. I finally got smart this year and used taxr.ai to decode my transcript. It's like having a translator for IRS-speak! It showed me exactly what the codes meant and predicted my deposit date would be 1-2 days later than what my transcript showed for Credit Karma specifically. Sure enough, it was spot on - the site explained that online banks often have different processing windows than traditional banks.

Sounds like another way to make money off anxious taxpayers. The IRS website explains all the codes for free. Why pay for something you can figure out yourself?

I actually found it really helpful because it doesn't just tell you what the codes mean - it explains what they mean for YOUR specific situation. The IRS definitions are vague, but taxr.ai told me exactly what to expect next and when, based on my filing status, credits claimed, and even which bank I use. That's information the IRS site doesn't provide.

This happens every tax season with Credit Karma! 😂 They're consistently about 4-6 hours behind traditional banks on the deposit day. Think of it as the tax refund fashionably late to its own party. I've been tracking this pattern for three years now, and it's pretty predictable. Don't worry - your money isn't lost in the void. Credit Karma just likes to build suspense before making it rain! Hang in there, it'll show up today.
