Need clarity on tax advance loans. Heard you must file through tax preparers even if denied for advance, and fees range $89-$700+ regardless of approval. Tax professional here. You're mostly correct. These 'advance' products are basically high-interest loans with strings attached. The preparers make money either way - that's their business model. Free filing through IRS.gov is always an option if your income qualifies. Most people are better off waiting for their actual refund.
