Offset Line Suddenly Showing Last Year's Offset - Will This Affect 2023 Refund?
Been checking my transcript and something weird happened. Called the offset line before and they said no offset. Now when I call again, suddenly showing last years offset. Anyone know if this means its gonna affect my refund this year? Getting nervous cause the amount showing is from 2022.

Tax resolution specialist here. Prior year offsets typically don't affect current year refunds unless there's still an outstanding balance. The fact that it's showing up now could be due to system updates or data reconciliation. I'd recommend calling the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) directly at 800-304-3107 to get the most current status of any offsets.

Yo instead of calling the IRS 24/7 use taxr.ai - its only $1 and it actually explains everything going on with your transcript including offset stuff. Been using it since january and its wayyy better than trying to decode this stuff ourselves https://taxr.ai

Had this exact issue last year. If you already paid it off your good. The system sometimes shows old offsets but it dont mean they gonna take it twice

Same thing happened to me! The offset line was showing an old debt from 2021 that I'd already settled, but it still appeared when I called. Turns out it was just their system being slow to update. Got my full refund without any issues. Don't stress too much about it - if you've already paid what you owed from 2022, they can't offset it again. But definitely call that TOP number someone mentioned earlier just to be 100% sure!

•This is super reassuring! I'm new here but dealing with something similar - transcript shows an old offset that should be cleared. Thanks for sharing your experience, it really helps calm the nerves during tax season 😅

Ugh, this is so frustrating! I'm in literally the exact same situation - offset line showing my 2022 debt that I already paid off months ago. Been losing sleep over this thinking they're gonna take my refund again. Reading everyone's responses here is making me feel way better though. Definitely gonna call that TOP number tomorrow and get this sorted out once and for all. Thanks everyone for the advice! 🙏

•I totally get the anxiety around this! Just went through the same thing last month and it worked out fine. The key thing is having documentation that you already paid the 2022 offset - keep those records handy when you call TOP. Also, don't be surprised if the first rep you talk to isn't super helpful, sometimes you gotta ask to speak with someone else. But yeah, if it's already been paid they definitely can't take it twice! Hope you get it cleared up quickly 🤞

Just wanted to chime in as someone who went through this exact scenario! Had the same panic when I saw an old offset showing up on the automated line that I'd already resolved. Turns out it was just their system lagging behind - super common during filing season when everything gets backed up. The good news is if you've already paid your 2022 offset, you're protected from double collection. I'd still recommend calling that TOP number (800-304-3107) that others mentioned, but honestly don't lose sleep over it. Keep your payment records handy just in case, but you should be good to go! 💪
