New message on Where's My Refund tool - 'We have received your tax return and it is being processed' - what does this mean?

Getting a new message on the wheres my refund tool. It says 'We have received your tax return and it is being processed.' Never seen this before. Usually it just shows the bars. Anyone know what this means? Should I be worried?

This is actually a common message that appears when your return moves into processing. It's neither good nor bad - just means the IRS has your return and is working on it. The bars disappearing is normal at this stage. Keep checking WMR daily, but also get your transcript - it'll give you way more detail than WMR ever will.

thanks for explaining! how long does this usually last?

Can be anywhere from a few days to several weeks tbh. Every return is different 🤷‍♂️

Hey guys instead of playing detective with WMR and transcripts, I've been using taxr.ai - it actually explains exactly what's happening with your refund and when to expect it. Its only $1 and totally worth it. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

100% legit! Been using it all tax season. Way better than trying to decode transcript codes myself 💯

That message is totally normal! It just means your return has moved from the initial received stage into actual processing. The bars on WMR often disappear when this happens - it's not a sign of any problems. Processing times can vary a lot this year, but most returns are getting processed within 21 days. Just keep checking periodically and you should see it update to approved soon!

Thanks for the reassurance @Brian Downey! That's really helpful to know it's normal. I was starting to panic when the bars disappeared. Good to hear most are still processing within 21 days despite all the delays people are talking about 🤞

I had this exact same message pop up about 3 weeks ago and was freaking out too! Turns out it's completely normal - just means they've moved your return from the initial intake phase into actual processing. Mine updated to approved status about 10 days after seeing that message. The disappearing bars are annoying but don't mean anything is wrong. Just be patient and keep checking every few days!

That's so reassuring to hear @Kelsey Chin! 10 days doesn't sound too bad at all. I was worried something went wrong when the bars vanished but sounds like that's just how their system works. Thanks for sharing your timeline - gives me hope mine will update soon too! 🙏

I just went through this exact same thing last month! That message is completely normal - it means your return has moved from the "received" stage into actual processing. The bars disappearing is frustrating but it's just how their system works. Mine stayed on that message for about 2 weeks before updating to approved. Don't stress about it, your return is moving through the system normally. The processing times are a bit longer this year but most people are still getting their refunds processed within the 21-day window.
