Mass 810 Freeze Codes Appearing Last Week - No Movement Since Feb Filing

Ain't no way almost everybody updated to an 810 code last week with no explanation 😒 I filed and was accepted 2/2 & literally no movement. No notices letters other codes etc. this tax season stressful already😩 My wife and I filed jointly this year for the first time, and our return was way simpler than when I filed single last year. Last year I had my refund by this point, but this year? Nothing. Comparing to what I'm seeing on Twitter and Facebook groups, seems like a ton of people got hit with 810 codes at the same time. Anyone else dealing with this?

The 810 freeze code has been appearing on many transcripts since March 12th, which is actually fairly common this time of year. It typically indicates the IRS is reviewing your return for potential identity verification. Have you checked if you received any letters dated around March 15th? Sometimes they take a week or two to arrive after the code appears.

How long does this usually take? I need my refund soon.

Is the 810 freeze code specifically related to first-time joint filers? My transcript shows the same TC810 with a -A freeze condition, but I haven't received any correspondence yet.

I had this exact same situation last year. Filed in February, got the 810 code in March, and didn't get a letter until almost April. Took about 60 days total to resolve, but I did eventually get my full refund.

Did u claim any credits like EITC or CTC? Those can trigger extra review. Also, any chance u or ur wife had ID theft in the past? Sometimes the 810 pops up as a precaution for 1st time joint filers if there's anything unusual on either person's acct history.

I did claim the Child Tax Credit, actually. My daughter is 3 years old, and I've claimed her before when filing single, but this is the first time filing jointly with my wife. I suppose that might be what triggered the review, though it seems like a lot of other people are experiencing something similar right now.

I had the exact same issue with an 810 code last year. After waiting 47 days with no movement, I finally called the IRS. Spent 3 hours on hold before getting disconnected. Then I found Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes. Turns out they needed to verify my identity, but the letter got lost in the mail. The agent released the hold right there on the phone, and I had my refund 9 days later. Worth every penny not to waste days trying to reach someone.

Have you tried pulling your full transcript to see if there are other codes besides the 810? There might be additional information there. • TC 570 often accompanies 810 freeze • Look for a TC 971 which indicates notice issued • Check for cycle codes that might indicate processing week • Any pending date (typically 4-5 weeks out) could show expected resolution

I'm in the same boat and just checked my transcript. I have both 810 and 570 codes from 03/18/2024. Does that mean I'm doubly screwed? 😅 First time filing with credits and this is way more complicated than I expected!

I had both those codes last year and it was just a verification issue. They sent a letter asking me to verify my identity online, I did it in about 10 minutes, and my refund was processed three weeks later. Don't panic yet - sometimes it's just routine!

Thanks for breaking down the codes. I've been staring at my transcript wondering what all those numbers mean.

I've seen this pattern before with joint filers who claim child credits. In my case last year, it was similar to what you're experiencing, but I also had a 971 code. Compared to single filing, joint returns with dependents often trigger additional verification steps, especially the first time. It's frustrating but usually resolves within 45-60 days in my experience.

This 810 freeze situation is like a traffic jam on the tax highway - lots of cars stuck at once, but they'll eventually start moving again. The IRS is particularly cautious with first-time joint filers claiming credits - it's like when a bank puts a hold on a large deposit just to be safe. Keep an eye on your mailbox for the next couple weeks. Most of these resolve without you needing to do anything beyond responding to any verification requests they send.

Has anyone checked the IRS2Go app to see if it gives different information than the Where's My Refund tool? According to taxoutreach.org, sometimes the app updates faster than the website. I'm wondering if that might show different status for people with the 810 code?

I've tried both the app and website, and they seem to show identical information in my experience. Have you found any resources that explain exactly what triggers an 810 code versus other verification holds? I'd like to understand the specific criteria the IRS uses.

Good suggestion. Different tools sometimes provide different insights.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.5.6, the TC 810 freeze is part of the Refund Integrity Verification process. It can be triggered by multiple factors including first-time joint filing with credits. Per IRS Publication 5027, if you receive a Letter 4883C, 5071C, or 5747C, you'll need to verify your identity. If you receive a Letter 4464C, it's simply informing you of an examination that typically resolves automatically within 60 days.

This is so frustrating!!! I've been seeing this 810 code everywhere in tax groups lately. Seems like the IRS is flagging way more returns this year than normal. Last year my friend got this and it took 8 weeks to resolve. I'm in the same boat and just trying to be patient but it's HARD when you're counting on that money! 😭
