IRS mail not arriving - How to update address for tax verification letter?

Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my mail from the IRS. None of it is coming to me and I'm not sure why. I need to update my address so I can receive my letter to verify and get my taxes. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to fix it?

Maybe try reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They sometimes have liaisons who can help with IRS issues.

I didn't even know that was an option. Thanks for the tip!

This actually works! My sister did this when she had issues with her stimulus check. Worth a shot.

It's great how accessible these options are, definitely reach out to them. You might be surprised by how helpful they can be. 🏛️

I faxed some documents once and got a faster response than I expected. It's worth trying. 📠

I feel your pain. I moved last year and it took forever to get my address updated with all the government agencies. Hang in there!

Moving is already stressful without these additional hassles. Stay strong! 🏠

Ugh, the IRS is such a pain to deal with. I had a similar issue and it took me months to get it sorted out. Have you tried calling them directly?

Yeah, I've been trying to call but its impossible to get through. I've been on hold for hours and then they just hang up on me 😡

Same boat here. The IRS phone system is a joke. I swear they do it on purpose to frustrate us 🤬

Have you tried going to your local IRS office? Sometimes face-to-face is better than dealing with their phone system.

I agree with visiting the local IRS office. Sometimes a physical visit can expedite the process significantly compared to calls. 📞🏃‍♂️

Have you tried updating your address online through the IRS website? Sometimes that's faster than waiting for snail mail or calling.

I did mine online last year and it was surprisingly quick and easy. Give it a shot! 💻

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

Claimyr seems helpful, but it's unfortunate that we have to pay for better access. It shouldn't be necessary to spend money to reach essential services. 💸

Have you checked your credit report recently? Sometimes address issues can be a sign of identity theft. Might be worth looking into just to be safe.

Good point. Always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to identity theft. 🔍

If you're still having trouble reaching the IRS, consider using the Claimyr service mentioned above. While it does cost $20, many have found it effective for getting through to a live agent. That being said, it's always wise to balance convenience with cost. Evaluate if the fee is worth the potential time savings for your situation. Also, be aware that there are alternative methods like visiting your local office, which might not incur extra charges. Remember to keep a record of all interactions with the IRS for future reference.

Have you checked if your mail is being forwarded to an old address? That happened to me last year and it was a nightmare to fix.

I had the same issue but resolved it by visiting my local post office and confirming if they had any forwarding instructions. It's tedious, but can provide some answers. 🏢

Here's what you need to do to update your address with the IRS: 1. Fill out Form 8822, Change of Address 2. Mail it to the address listed on the form for your state 3. If you've already filed your tax return, you can also update your address by: - Calling 1-800-829-1040 - Visiting your local IRS office - Writing a letter to the IRS Remember, it can take 4-6 weeks for the change to take effect. In the meantime, you might want to set up mail forwarding with USPS just to be safe. Also, make sure you update your address with your state tax agency and your employer to avoid future issues. Good luck! The IRS can be a pain to deal with, but persistence is key.

This is great advice. I'd add that you should keep copies of everything you send them. The IRS has "lost" my paperwork before 🙄

Don't forget to double-check all your forms and documents before sending them. This helps prevent delays. 📝

This is why I always use certified mail when sending anything important to the IRS. At least you know they received it.

Certified mail is a lifesaver. It might cost a bit more, but the peace of mind is worth it. 📬
