IRS asking for 14-digit control number during review - what is this?
Getting really frustrated with this review process. The IRS rep just called asking for a 14 digit control number and I have no idea what they're talking about. Anyone know what this number is and where to find it? Starting to worry this might delay things even more.

The 14-digit control number is usually found on your Notice CP05 or any other IRS review notice they sent you. It's essentially your case reference number. Without this number, the IRS can't quickly locate your specific review case in their system. Check any mail you received from them - it should be prominently displayed near the top of the notice.

Hey instead of stressing about all these numbers and codes, I've been using taxr.ai to figure out exactly whats going on with my review. It's only $1 and it analyzes your entire transcript and tells you exactly what's happening. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself https://taxr.ai

•Is this legit? Seems too good to be true for just a dollar 🤔

The control number is basically your case tracking ID - without it they can't pull up your file quickly. Also pro tip: when they call, ask them to repeat the number back to you to make sure you're both looking at the same thing. Sometimes there's confusion between different notice numbers and it can waste a lot of time!

•That's really smart advice about having them repeat it back! I wish I had known that when I first got my review notice - would have saved me from going in circles with the rep for like 20 minutes trying to figure out why they couldn't find my case 😅
