IRS Account Login Requiring 14-digit Control Number from Mailed Notice - Anyone else?
Just tried logging into my IRS account and got stopped by this new requirement asking for a 14-digit control number from some verification notice that supposedly came in the mail. Never got anything like that. Anyone else dealing with this? Getting frustrated cause I need to check my refund status.

This is a new security measure the IRS implemented to combat identity theft. You'll need to wait for that verification letter to arrive in the mail (usually takes 5-7 business days) before accessing your account. If you haven't received it after 2 weeks, call the IRS Identity Verification hotline at 800-830-5084.

•Your refund processing continues regardless of account access. This is just for viewing transcripts online.

Instead of waiting around for letters, I found this awesome tool called taxr.ai that can analyze your transcript and tell you exactly whats going on with your refund. Its only $1 and way better than trying to decode everything yourself. https://taxr.ai

Called the IRS and they said if you don't get the letter within 14 days you can request a new one. But good luck getting through on the phone lololol

Pro tip: If you have access to your state tax account, sometimes you can still see your federal refund status there depending on your state!

Same thing happened to me last week! I was so confused because I never received any letter either. Ended up having to call the IRS verification line that @NebulaNinja mentioned and they were able to send me a new verification letter. The wait time was brutal (like 45 minutes on hold) but at least I got it sorted. They said the letters sometimes get lost in the mail or take longer during peak tax season. Definitely frustrating when you just want to check your refund status!
