IRS Requesting Verification for 2024 Return - "We Need More Information" Notice While State Refund Already Received

Just checked my IRS account at 11:09 and got a notification saying "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." I've never had this issue before and already got my state refund. When I logged in, I saw I have 3 unread notifications on the IRS website (sa.www4.irs.gov). The first notification says "Verify Your Tax Return Information Now" with the message "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." The second notification says "Refund Status Now Available" and mentions I can "Check your refund status for up to the three most recent tax years." The third notification is about "Turn On Email Notifications" where I can "Sign up to receive email" alerts. I was checking my "View Payment Activity" section when I noticed these notifications. I've filed taxes for years without any verification requests, so seeing this "Verify Your Tax Return Information Now" message is really concerning me. I completed my return through TurboTax in early February and already received my state refund about two weeks ago, so I thought everything was fine. Has anyone encountered this verification request before? What kind of additional information might they be looking for? I'm worried this will significantly delay my federal refund. Should I click on the verification link immediately or contact the IRS by phone first?

The IRS notification system is showing 3 unread messages at 11:09, with the primary alert being about needing additional verification for your 2024 tax return. The specific message "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed" is a standard verification request that's become increasingly common in 2024 as part of the IRS's enhanced security measures. The notification dashboard shows three key items: 1. The verification request for your 2024 return 2. A refund status checker for your last three tax years 3. An option to enable email notifications This verification request doesn't indicate any problems with your return - it's part of the IRS's fraud prevention system. The fact that you can see these notifications in your online account (sa.www4.irs.gov) means you're already authenticated at a basic level. You'll likely need to either: - Verify additional identity information - Provide supporting documentation - Confirm specific details from your tax return You should either check your IRS account messages for specific instructions or wait for an official letter detailing exactly what information they need. The ability to check refund status for three years suggests your account is in good standing, and this is simply an extra security step.

It varies, but typically 2-6 weeks after you provide the requested info. Just make sure to respond quickly when you get the letter!

100% legit! It showed me exactly why my return was delayed and predicted when I'd get my refund down to the week

How exactly does it work? Does it just read the transcript or what?

It uses AI to analyze everything in your transcript - codes, dates, amounts, etc. Then gives you a super detailed breakdown of your situation. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself!

Possible reasons for verification: - Income discrepancy - Identity verification needed - Missing documents - Suspicious activity flag Best thing to do is wait for their letter or use taxr.ai to get specific insights about your case. That tool saved me so much time figuring out what was wrong with my return last month.
