IRS Notification: "Verify Your 2024 Tax Return Information Now" - Is This Legitimate Request Appearing in My Account?

I just logged into my IRS account at sa.www4.irs.gov at 11:27 and saw something concerning. I have 2 unread notifications showing in my account. When I look at my dashboard, I can see all the usual sections: Under Payments, I have: - MAKE A PAYMENT - View Payment Options - View Payment Activity There's also the usual section that says "Refund Status Now Available" with the message "Check your refund status for up to the three most recent tax years." And the standard "Go Paperless for Certain IRS Notices" option that says "Set your profile preferences to receive IRS notices online." But what's alarming is that now there's a notification under "Verify Your Tax Return Information Now" saying "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." I checked yesterday and everything was completely normal - all these regular options were there, but this verification notice wasn't. It just appeared out of nowhere today. I've never seen this before and it's making me nervous. Does this mean there's something wrong with my tax return? Will my refund be delayed? Has anyone else received this notification recently? Is this something I should worry about or just a normal verification process? I'm wondering if I need to call the IRS or if there's a way to address this online through my account.

The IRS account screenshot shows a legitimate verification request at 11:27 on sa.www4.irs.gov, with multiple standard account features visible. The key elements include: 1. Normal account functions remain accessible: - "Make a Payment" option - Payment viewing and activity features - Standard refund status checking for 3 tax years - Paperless notice enrollment option 2. New verification notice elements: - 2 unread notifications - "Verify Your Tax Return Information Now" alert - Specific message regarding the 2024 tax return requiring additional information This verification request is consistent with the IRS's enhanced 2024 identity theft prevention measures. The presence of standard account features alongside the verification notice indicates this is a routine IRS security check rather than a compromise of your account. The verification message's placement and formatting match legitimate IRS communications. For security, notice that you're on the correct IRS domain (sa.www4.irs.gov), which is important for avoiding phishing attempts. The standard account features remaining visible suggests your account is in good standing, just pending additional verification.

Hey everyone - instead of guessing what this means, you should try taxr.ai. It's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and what to do next. It costs $1 but totally worth it. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Quick tip: screenshot everything when you do the verification. The IRS website can be glitchy sometimes and its good to have proof
