IRS Account Notification: "Need More Information About Your 2024 Tax Return" - Timeline for Verification and Processing?
Just got a message in my IRS account at 8:35 saying "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." This was under the "Notifications" section where it shows I have 3 unread messages. I was in the "View Payment Activity" area of my account on sa.www4.irs.gov when I noticed this. The exact notification says: "Verify Your Tax Return Information Now We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." The IRS account page also shows "Refund Status Now Available" with text underneath saying "Check your refund status for up to the three most recent tax years." There's also an option to "Turn On Email Notifications" which says "Sign up to receive email notifications when the IRS issues new notices for your account." I was looking at "Page 1 of 2" of my notifications, and there are "Previous" and "Next" navigation buttons at the bottom as well as a "Records and Status" section. Anyone else get this verification request? How long did it take to get the actual letter in the mail? And after verifying your information, what's the timeline looking like for getting the refund? Starting to get worried about this whole situation. I haven't turned on the email notifications yet - should I do that to stay better informed about what's going on with my return?

The IRS notification shown in your account at 8:35 AM indicates a standard verification request for your 2024 tax return. The system shows 3 unread notifications, with the primary message being "We need more information about your 2024 tax return before it can be processed." This verification request appears in the View Payment Activity section of your sa.www4.irs.gov account. The interface offers three key features: 1. A verification request for your current return 2. Access to refund status for up to three tax years 3. An option to enable email notifications for future IRS notices This verification request is part of the IRS's enhanced security protocols for 2024 returns. You can expect the official verification letter to arrive by mail within 5-7 business days. Once you complete the verification process, the IRS typically takes 2-9 weeks to process your return and issue any refund. Enabling email notifications (shown as an available option in your account) would help you stay informed about future communications without having to regularly log into your account. The "Records and Status" section shown at the bottom of the page is where you'll find updates once the verification process begins.

•100% legit! You upload your transcript and their AI breaks down everything - tells you if youre delayed, why, and when to expect payment. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself
