IRS Website Down? Can't Access Anything Since This Morning 🥴
Is anyone else having issues accessing the IRS website today? I've been trying to check my refund status since 8am and keep getting error messages. Sometimes the page won't load at all, other times it loads halfway then crashes. Tried on both my phone and laptop. Getting really frustrated because I filed 3 weeks ago and just want to see if there's any progress! 🥴

Yeah it's been down for me too since about 9:30 this morning. I was trying to access my tax transcripts and kept getting the 'technical difficulties' message. Typical IRS during peak filing season... 🙄

The IRS does scheduled maintenance on their systems, usually on weekends or overnight, but sometimes it extends into business hours. They're also experiencing higher than normal traffic this tax season. I'd recommend trying again later tonight or early tomorrow morning when traffic is lighter.

•Unfortunately yes, especially during peak filing season (February-April). Their systems are notoriously outdated. They typically work better during off-hours like early morning (5-7am) or late night (after 10pm).

I was having the same problem this morning! I finally got through by using a different browser (switched from Chrome to Firefox) and clearing my cookies first. Might be worth a try if you're still having issues later.

If you're trying to check your refund status specifically, I'd recommend using the IRS2Go app instead of the website. It's been working fine for me today even while the main site was giving errors.

•They have both free and paid options. I used the free version just to understand what all the codes on my transcript meant. The paid version gives more detailed analysis but I didn't need that. It doesn't ask for any personal info beyond what's already on your transcript.

This happens EVERY tax season. The IRS website infrastructure is from the stone age. If you need to actually talk to someone at the IRS about your return, good luck with their regular phone line - I tried for 3 days straight last week. Finally used Claimyr.com and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They basically hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. •Yes, there's a fee, but it was worth every penny to not spend hours on hold. I had already wasted almost 2 days trying to get through on my own. They don't ask for any personal info beyond your phone number to call you back when they reach an agent.

Glad to hear it's working again! For future reference, the IRS also has a "Where's My Refund" tool that sometimes works even when other parts of the site are having issues. You can also call their automated refund hotline at 1-800-829-1954 if the website is down - it's available 24/7 and usually more reliable than the web interface during peak times.
