IRS Verification Process - What to Expect and How to Handle It?
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an IRS verification issue and I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone gone through this process before? What should I expect? Any tips on how to handle it smoothly?

Ugh, IRS verification can be such a pain. I went through it last year. Have you received any specific notices or letters from them? That's usually where they outline what exactly they need from you.

•Not yet, I'm still waiting to see if anything comes in the mail. How long did it take for you to get your notice?

•It took about 2 weeks after they first contacted me. Keep an eye on your mailbox, and maybe check your spam folder in case they sent an email too.

•Pro tip: sign up for informed delivery with USPS. You'll get emails showing what mail is coming each day, so you won't miss anything important from the IRS.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth it if you're desperate to talk to someone.

•It's legit, I promise. They have good reviews online if you look them up. Beats sitting on hold for hours 🤷♂️

Here's what you need to know about IRS verification: 1. Be patient. The process can take weeks or even months. 2. Gather all your tax documents from the past few years. 3. Respond promptly to any IRS requests. 4. Consider getting professional help if it's complicated. 5. Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them. 6. Use certified mail for important documents. 7. Don't panic if they ask for more info, it's normal. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

•Y'all need to chill. They're just doing their jobs. It sucks but being negative won't help.

Has anyone tried using a tax advocate service? I've heard they can sometimes help speed things up with the IRS.

•It varies, but mine was around $200. Tbh, it saved me way more than that in the long run.

Quick question - are you verifying for a personal return or a business? The process can be different depending on which one it is.

•It's for a personal return. Does that make it easier or harder?

•Generally easier for personal returns. Just make sure you have all your W-2s, 1099s, and any other income docs ready to go.

PSA: Watch out for scams! If anyone calls claiming to be from the IRS and asks for personal info or payment, it's probably fake. The IRS almost always communicates by mail first.
