IRS 4883C letter: Can't reach IRS before closing - What to do?
Has anyone else gotten a 4883c letter from the IRS? I'm freaking out because they're closing soon and I still haven't been able to get through to talk to someone. This is so frustrating! I've been trying to call all day and keep getting put on hold. What am I supposed to do if I can't reach them before they close? Will they keep calling tomorrow or do I have to start all over again? Any advice would be really appreciated!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Hey OP, don't stress too much. I got one of these letters last year and it turned out to be no big deal. Just make sure you respond within the timeframe and you'll be fine!

Plot twist: it's actually a subliminal message telling you to pay more taxes 🤯

Remember when we could just mail in our tax returns and not worry about all this identity verification stuff? Pepperidge Farm remembers 👴

For real tho, identity theft is no joke. I'd rather deal with this than have someone steal my refund

Guys, I think I figured it out. The real reason we can't get through is because all the IRS agents are busy browsing this subreddit for tax evasion tips 🕵️♂️

Unpopular opinion: the IRS is understaffed and underfunded. They're doing their best with limited resources. Maybe if we properly funded government services, we wouldn't have these issues 🤷♀️

Nah, they just need to get with the times and upgrade their systems. It's 2023, why are we still dealing with this?

Not an employee, just someone who understands how government budgets work. But go off, I guess 🙄

I'm in the same boat. Been trying to reach them for days now. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to a human being 🙄

Has anyone tried showing up in person at an IRS office? Wonder if that would be faster...

I tried that once. Ended up waiting 4 hours just to be told I needed to call the number on my letter 🤦♀️

Maybe try that claimyr thing someone mentioned? Might be worth the $20 at this point

Here's what you need to know about the 4883C letter: 1. It's usually sent when the IRS needs to verify your identity 2. You MUST respond within 30 days of the date on the letter 3. Have all your documents ready before you call (W-2, 1040, etc.) 4. Be prepared to answer questions about your personal info and tax return Don't panic! This doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem with your return. They're just being extra cautious about identity theft. Pro tip: If you can't get through today, keep trying first thing in the morning. The IRS typically starts taking calls at 7am local time. Good luck!

If you're still struggling to reach the IRS, it's worth considering Claimyr for quick service. While it's true that $20 might seem steep just to get connected, it could be invaluable if you're losing business hours to these calls. However, always be cautious with third-party services. Read reviews and make sure you're comfortable with the process. In the meantime, faxing your response, visiting a local IRS office (with an appointment), and keeping all your tax documents handy can help reduce any stress or delays. Remember, the IRS is required to respond to every request, so keep a diligent eye out for any communication.

Have you tried faxing them? Sometimes that works better than calling. Just make sure to include your SSN and the letter number on every page.

Anyone else think its weird that we have to jump through all these hoops just to pay our taxes? Like, they should be thanking us, not making it impossible to talk to someone 🙃
