IRS: Hours on hold for 4883c letter - Tips to reach a real person?
Has anyone else been waiting forever to get through to the IRS? I've been trying to call about my 4883c letter for hours and still nothing. This is so frustrating! I feel like I'm just wasting my time sitting here on hold. Anyone have any tips on how to actually talk to a real person?

At least rats get cheese. All we get is hold music and frustration 😤

Hey, IRS customer service is notoriously tough to navigate, but don't lose hope! Alongside the traditional methods like calling or using their website's callback option, consider using tools like Claimyr. They offer a service where calls are dialed and held for you, which can be a real time-saver. However, at $20 per use, it's an investment, and not everyone is comfortable with third-party services. Always weigh the benefits against privacy and cost concerns. You can also explore the taxpayer advocate service which is often very helpful. Keep a log of all your attempts, as documentation can help if further advocacy is needed. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of a well-crafted written response. Good luck navigating this maze!

Have you guys tried using this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool? It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The government should make this easier for free.

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Claimyr is definitely a viable option, but I wonder about privacy concerns with using a third-party service.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Yeah, I've tried that. Still no luck. It's like they have one person answering phones for the whole country or something.

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been trying to reach them for weeks now. It's like they're purposely making it impossible to get through 🙄

Have you tried faxing them? Sometimes old school methods work better with these dinosaur agencies.

Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂 But seriously, might give it a shot if nothing else works.

Wait, why enter a fake SSN? Wouldn't that mess things up?

Definitely avoid using fake information. It's risky and could get you into more trouble.

Unpopular opinion: maybe if we all just paid our taxes correctly in the first place, we wouldn't need to call so much? Just saying...

Wow, way to victim blame. The tax code is insanely complicated. Mistakes happen.

While correct info is vital, the IRS should still be more accessible.

I feel your pain. I've been dealing with this 4883c nonsense for months now. Here's what I've learned: 1. Keep calling. It sucks, but persistence is key. 2. Use the IRS website to schedule a callback if possible. 3. Consider reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. 4. Document everything. Keep a log of your calls and attempts. 5. If all else fails, you might need to send a written response to the letter. Remember, the IRS is understaffed and overworked. It's not your fault, but unfortunately, we're all stuck dealing with it. Hang in there!

This is great advice! I'd add that sometimes calling later in the day can work too. Less people trying to get through.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Didn't even know that was a thing.

Ugh, the IRS is such a joke. They expect us to pay our taxes on time, but when we need help, suddenly they're nowhere to be found. 🤡

It's ironic, isn't it? We're held to high standards, but service from them is lacking.

I heard they're implementing a new phone system soon. Hopefully that'll make things easier. Until then, we're all just stuck playing this waiting game 🎲
