IRS 4883C Letter - How to Respond and Verify Identity?

Hey everyone, I just got this 4883C letter from the IRS. Anyone else dealing with this? What should I expect? I've been trying to call them but no luck so far.

I found a way to solve IRS 4883C identity verification, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOpaO00eE1M

Ugh, I got one of those too. It's a pain in the butt. Basically, they're asking you to verify your identity before they process your return. You gotta call them and jump through some hoops.

How long did it take you to get through to someone? I've been trying for days šŸ˜«

It took me like a week of trying. Keep at it, you'll get through eventually!

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? That's highway robbery! šŸ¤‘ The IRS should make it easier to reach them without paying extra.

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they just keep redialing or what?

From what I understand, they use some kind of AI to navigate the phone tree and detect when a human picks up. Then it calls you. Pretty nifty tech tbh.

Here's what you need to know about the 4883C letter: ā€¢ It's part of the IRS identity verification process ā€¢ You MUST respond, or your return won't be processed ā€¢ You'll need to provide personal info like your SSN, filing status, and info from prior year returns ā€¢ They might ask about specific lines on your current return ā€¢ If you can't verify by phone, you may need to visit an IRS office in person Pro tip: Have all your tax docs ready before you call. It'll make the process go smoother.

Do you know how long it typically takes to get your refund after verifying?

In my experience, it took about 2-3 weeks after verification. But I've heard it can vary.

It's to prevent fraud, but yeah, it's a pain for honest taxpayers.

Quick question - does anyone know if this affects your refund amount? Or is it just a delay in processing?

I went through this last year. Here's a tip: if you can't get through on the phone, try calling right when they open. I had better luck that way.

What time do they open? Might give this a shot tomorrow.

I think it's 7am local time, but double check on the IRS website to be sure.

Has anyone tried using a tax advocate service for this? I'm wondering if it's worth it or if I should just keep trying to handle it myself.

I used one last year for a different issue. They can be helpful but it still took a while.
