Got IRS Letter 4883C - What to expect? Help!

Hey everyone, I just got a Letter 4883C from the IRS. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I expect? I'm kinda freaking out here.

I found a way to solve IRS Letter 4883C identity verification, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PLHLkMQuNQ

Ugh, I got one of those last year. It's basically the IRS saying they need to verify your identity before they can process your return. Don't panic, it's not as bad as it sounds!

Oh thank god, I was worried it was an audit or something. How long did the process take for you?

It took about 2-3 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Just make sure you follow their instructions carefully!

Here's what you need to know about Letter 4883C: 1. It's an identity verification request 2. You'll need to either call the IRS or verify online 3. Have your previous year's tax return handy 4. Be prepared to answer questions about your identity 5. Don't ignore it! Your refund won't be processed until you verify It's a pain, but it's to protect you from identity theft. Good luck!

This is great advice! I'd add that if you choose to verify online, make sure you're using the official IRS website. There are scams out there!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

Quick tip: if you decide to call, try early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Those times usually have shorter wait times in my experience.

Does anyone know if this letter means there's something wrong with my return? Or is it just a random check?

It's usually just a random check. They're trying to prevent fraud. Doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong!

Pro tip: keep copies of EVERYTHING. I learned that the hard way when I got this letter and couldn't find my old returns πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
