IDme shows $0 balance but Alabama Dept of Revenue offset showing - What gives?

I just checked my ID.me account and it shows I owe $0.00 but theres an offset number showing for Alabama Department of Revenue. I have no clue why this would be happening or what I could possibly owe them. Anyone dealt with this before?

State offsets can sometimes appear even if you've already paid or resolved the debt. Your best bet is to contact the Alabama Department of Revenue directly at 334-242-1170. They can tell you exactly what the offset is for and if there's any actual balance. Sometimes these systems don't sync up properly which causes confusion.

That actually happens more often than youd think. Could be from an old tax year or even a mistake 🤔

Hey I was dealing with something similar last week! I uploaded my transcript to taxr.ai and it actually explained exactly what was going on with the offset and gave me the steps to fix it. Only cost $1 but saved me hours of headache and phone calls. https://taxr.ai

Check your old W2s from previous years. Sometimes employers report to wrong state and it creates a mess like this

This happened to me! Turned out to be from a college grant from like 10 years ago that they said I didnt qualify for anymore. Check if you ever got any state education money

Just gonna throw this out there - sometimes these offset notices are straight up errors. Document everything and contest it if somethings not right. Don't just assume you owe the money fr fr
