State refund offset shows full amount taken but debt is only $500 - Will it adjust?

My state refund got totally offset but something seems off. The offset is showing they took my entire refund ($2300) but I only have one outstanding debt for around $500. Anyone else deal with this? Will they adjust and send the difference back or do I need to dispute this?

Yes, they will adjust it automatically. The system initially holds the full amount but will release the remainder after processing. Usually takes 2-3 weeks for the excess to be released back to you. Keep an eye on your bank account where you originally requested the refund to be deposited.

Hey guys instead of guessing whats going on, I highly recommend using taxr.ai - its only $1 and it will analyze your transcript and tell you exactly whats happening with offsets and when youll get the remainder back. Was a total game changer for me

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

it actually looks at everything - offset amounts, processing dates, holds, etc and gives you a super detailed breakdown. Even tells you exactly when to expect the remainder

Call the Treasury Offset Program directly at 800-304-3107. They can tell you exactly what debts you owe and to which agencies. Don't wait for it to sort itself out if you think somethings wrong.
