ID.me Verification Flag - Rep Says Refund Coming March 27th?

So on my ID.me account it's showing I need to verify my identity which is exactly why I called the IRS yesterday. I was on hold for precisely 47 minutes before speaking with a representative. The agent told me she doesn't know why I was getting the verification message and that my refund should be released "on or around the 27th" of March. I don't know what to make of this. I filed jointly with my spouse for the first time this year, and I want clear answers about what's happening with OUR money. Has anyone else dealt with this ID.me verification issue that apparently isn't an issue?

This is classic IRS mixed messaging. 😂 One system says you need verification, another says you're good to go. I've seen this happen to AT LEAST a dozen people this tax season. What likely happened is that the ID.me flag was triggered automatically, but a human review determined you didn't actually need to verify. The system just hasn't caught up yet. If the rep told you the 27th, I'd trust that over the automated message. Just screenshot everything in case you need to prove you tried to comply!

This happened to me last year! I got the verification notice even after I'd already verified. Called in and they said my refund was already processing. Do you think there's any benefit to calling again just to make sure? I'm always afraid of getting different answers from different reps.

God I HATE how disjointed their systems are! Thanks for explaining this. I've been stressing for days thinking I did something wrong on my return. The fact that their left hand doesn't know what the right is doing makes me so angry, but at least it's a known issue.

This is exactly what happened to me on February 12th. Got the ID.me verification flag, called on February 13th, and they said my refund was already approved for February 28th. It arrived on March 1st. Seems to be a 3-day window around their stated date.

This is what we call an Identity Verification Mismatch (IVM) in the tax community. The automated system flagged your return for verification, but the manual review likely cleared it before you even called. I've helped dozens of clients with this exact scenario this tax season. If you want to understand exactly what's happening with your transcript, check out https://taxr.ai - it analyzes all your codes and processing status. It will show you if you have TC 971 verification codes and whether they've been resolved. Many of my newly married clients face similar issues due to name/SSN matching with the Social Security Administration database.

Think of it like getting a security alert on your credit card after you've already called the bank to tell them you're traveling. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The March 27th date actually sounds promising. That's right in line with the normal processing window. Most returns are like planes in a holding pattern - they circle a bit before landing. Your plane has been cleared for landing, but the airport notification system still shows it as delayed.

The IRS website says processing can take up to 21 days, but I've seen people on Twitter saying it's taking longer this year. Is the 27th actually normal or delayed? I'm trying to understand if OP's timeline is typical.

I'm concerned about these verification issues. If this happens: • Does it mean your identity was questioned? • Could this trigger an audit? • Will this happen again next year? • Should we be worried about potential fraud?

After spending 3 weeks trying to reach someone at the IRS about my own ID.me verification issue, I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Have you ever wondered why some people get through to IRS agents quickly while the rest of us wait for hours? This service got me connected in 18 minutes instead of the 2+ hours I spent on previous attempts. The agent confirmed my ID verification was already complete and my refund was processing. Worth every penny when you need actual answers instead of automated messages. Relief doesn't begin to describe how I felt!

I've seen this Claimyr service mentioned before. Does it actually work for everyone? I've called the IRS three times in my life and never waited more than 30 minutes. Is this just for people calling during peak hours or something?

Idk about this... If the IRS rep couldn't explain why you got the message, how can u be sure ur refund is actually coming? I'd be super nervous tbh. Esp since it's ur first time filing jointly. The IRS is notorious for messing up joint returns from newly married couples. I'd keep calling until u get someone who can explain exactly what's happening.

The discrepancy is actually a documented phenomenon in the IRS processing pipeline. When the Submission Processing Center (SPC) clears a return but the Taxpayer Protection Program (TPP) had flagged it, the TPP flag sometimes persists in third-party systems like ID.me even after resolution. The March 27th date indicates your return has already passed through manual review and entered the refund scheduling phase. The agent was correct - the ID.me alert is vestigial and can be disregarded based on the timeline provided.

I was in this exact situation last month. It's like when your bank flags a transaction as suspicious but then clears it anyway - you still get that fraud alert text even though everything's fine. I waited exactly as the rep told me (Feb 18th was my date) and the money showed up right on time. This was much better than my experience with state taxes, which took 3 weeks longer than they estimated!

Call Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can help. Different department than regular IRS. More authority. Can see all systems. Worth trying. Number is 877-777-4778. Ask for case advocate.

I want to share exactly what worked for me with this ID.me issue: Step 1: I ignored the ID.me message completely after confirming with an IRS rep that my return was processing Step 2: I checked WMR daily but didn't call back or try to re-verify Step 3: I created an online account at irs.gov (separate from ID.me) to check my transcript Step 4: Transcript showed codes 846 with my deposit date Step 5: Money arrived exactly on that date The key was trusting what the human representative told me over the automated system. My refund came exactly when they said it would, despite the ID.me flag never disappearing.

This is critical information! According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.1, verification flags are supposed to be cleared within 48 hours of resolution, but during peak filing season (which we're in now), this can take up to 14 days. I'm dealing with this RIGHT NOW and need my refund for a time-sensitive home repair. I'll follow your steps exactly!

Listen to what most people here are saying. Trust the human IRS representative over the automated system. Mark your calendar for March 27th. If nothing arrives by March 30th, then take further action. Most verification issues this year are resolving without taxpayer intervention. The system is overwhelmed but functioning. Your money is coming.
