Has anyone received IRS acceptance notification same day as filing?
Just wondering if anyone has gotten their return accepted the same day they filed? First year filing jointly with my spouse and curious what to expect. Filed yesterday and waiting for the acceptance notification.

Yes. It happens often. The IRS sends an acceptance notification quickly for simple returns. Most e-files get accepted within 24-48 hours. Acceptance just means they received it. Processing takes longer. Don't worry yet.

I'd say this is accurate, though I'm hesitant to make guarantees... My return was accepted within about 6 hours of filing this year, but I've had it take up to 2 days in previous years. The complexity of your return might affect timing somewhat.

Does acceptance in 24 hours mean I'll get my refund faster? I'm waiting on exactly $4,327 and filed exactly 12 days ago. Got the acceptance notification in 3 hours but WMR still shows processing. So frustrating when you need the money!

I've had same-day acceptance for the last three years! It's like getting a text from your ex - surprisingly quick but doesn't mean things are moving forward yet š Just make sure you check both your email and your tax software account. Sometimes the notification goes to one but not the other.

Wow, never thought about checking both places! Like having two mailboxes and only checking one. Tax season is way more complicated than I expected for something we do every year. Thanks for the tip!

Be careful about confusing IRS acceptance with actual processing completion. The Form 1040 e-file acceptance is merely an acknowledgment that your return met basic formatting requirements and your SSN matches their records. I received acceptance notification within 3 hours this year, but my return is still showing "Processing" in WMR after 21 days. The acceptance notification doesn't indicate anything about whether your return will be selected for review or how quickly your refund will be issued.

This happened to me too! Got the acceptance email at 9pm the same day I filed, then waited 6 weeks for my refund. Last year was completely different - took 2 days for acceptance but got my refund in 8 days. The IRS works in mysterious ways.

Very important distinction here. The IRS website actually explains this: https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions. I'm concerned many people don't realize acceptance just means they received it, not that it's approved. This confusion leads to a lot of anxiety when refunds don't arrive quickly.

Is there any real benefit to getting accepted quickly then? Seems like it doesn't actually mean much in terms of when you'll get your money, right? Just curious why people even track this step.

I filed on February 22nd this year and got acceptance on the same day. But then my return got stuck in processing for 3 weeks with no updates. Called the IRS on March 16th but couldn't get through after 2 hours on hold. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Found out there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear. Got my refund 5 days later. Sometimes quick acceptance doesn't mean smooth processing.

Is this service actually legitimate? Per IRS Pub 5136, taxpayers should contact the IRS directly through official channels. I need to speak with someone ASAP about my return filed on April 1st, but I'm concerned about using third-party services with my tax information.

Same-day acceptance depends on several factors: 1. Time of day you file - submissions before 1pm EST have better chances of same-day acceptance 2. Complexity of return - simple returns process faster 3. Filing method - some tax software transmits in batches 4. IRS system load - early season typically has faster response times Acceptance only means your return passed initial validation checks. The actual processing and approval for refund is a separate, longer process that involves verification of income, credits claimed, and potential manual review.

My experience with acceptance times over the past 3 years: ā¢ 2022 taxes: Filed 2/3/2023 at 9am, accepted 2/3/2023 at 2pm (5 hours) ā¢ 2023 taxes: Filed 1/29/2024 at 7pm, accepted 1/30/2024 at 10am (15 hours) ā¢ 2021 taxes: Filed 3/15/2022 at 5pm, accepted 3/17/2022 at 9am (40 hours) Factors that seemed to matter: ā¢ Filing early in tax season = faster acceptance ā¢ Filing during business hours = faster acceptance ā¢ Simple return = faster acceptance

Try checking your tax software account instead of waiting for an email! I was feeling so anxious about not getting my acceptance notification, but when I logged into my TurboTax account, it showed my return was accepted 3 hours after filing! The email notification system sometimes lags behind the actual status. I'm so happy I checked there first instead of worrying needlessly!
