H&R Block fees taken out - anyone get DD for 2/24 or 2/25?
Has anyone filed w/ H&R Block and had fees deducted from refund + got DDs scheduled for 2/24 or 2/25? My WMR updated yesterday but still waiting for $ to hit acct. First time filing in US so not sure if normal timeline. Thx in advance for any info!

I'm in the same boat. Filed with H&R on 1/30, accepted same day, and WMR shows deposit date of 2/24. Still nothing in my account as of this morning š© I've been checking the H&R community forums and seems like several people are experiencing delays. The IRS tracker shows it's sent but probably stuck in the bank processing system or H&R's payment processor (MetaBank) is holding it to deduct fees before forwarding the remainder.

Wait, so does H&R use a different bank before it goes to our accounts? I thought the IRS sent it directly to us! Do they take out the fees before or after we get the money? This is making me nervous about my timeline too...

My deposit date was exactly Feb 22nd and didn't hit until late afternoon on the 23rd. Seems like there's always a 1-2 day delay from what the WMR tool says. Last year I had the same issue with the Feb 15th date and didn't see funds until the 17th.

I've used H&R Block with fee deduction for the past 3 tax cycles. When you opt for fee deduction from your refund, they set up a temporary Refund Transfer account through MetaBank. The IRS deposits your full refund there, MetaBank deducts the preparation fees plus the additional Refund Transfer fee (usually $39), then forwards the remainder to your designated account. This adds 1-3 business days to the timeline. My DDD was 2/24 and funds appeared late last night (2/26). The bank processing time isn't counted in the IRS deposit date.

Think of your refund like a package delivery. The IRS says they delivered it on 2/24, but really they just handed it to H&R Block's courier service (MetaBank). That courier needs to open the package, take their payment, repackage it, and then deliver it to your doorstep. That whole process takes 1-3 business days after the IRS "delivery date." It's annoying but normal. I've had a 2/24 date show up in my account as late as 2/27 in previous years.

This is exactly right. The process works like this: ā¢ IRS sends full refund to temporary bank account ā¢ Temporary account deducts fees ā¢ Remaining balance transfers to your personal account ā¢ Each step takes processing time I work with financial systems and this is standard procedure for any third-party fee arrangement.

Thx for this explanation! Makes total sense now. Was freaking out but this helps.

Would this be different if you paid H&R Block upfront instead of having fees taken from the refund? I'm wondering if that method is faster than having fees deducted.

I've been through this rodeo before. H&R Block and their bank partner are notoriously slow with processing these transfers. If you need to know exactly what's happening with your refund, you should call the IRS directly. They can tell you if it's been sent already or if there's a hold-up on their end. Of course, getting through to them is nearly impossible this time of year. I used Claimyr.com last week (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They confirmed my refund was sent to the bank already, which gave me peace of mind. Sometimes just knowing where things stand is worth it.

Be aware that there's a potential technical issue affecting Refund Transfer processing this year. The Application Programming Interface (API) between the IRS Direct Deposit system and some third-party processors experienced intermittent failures during the 2/22-2/26 batch processing window. This can cause an additional 24-72 hour delay beyond normal processing times. If your WMR status shows "Refund Sent" but your bank shows no pending deposit by 2/28, I recommend contacting H&R Block's dedicated Refund Transfer support line at their customer service number and requesting a trace on your specific Refund Transfer ID. They can provide visibility into which processing stage your refund is currently in.

Just to clarify something important - the date you see on WMR is when the IRS releases the funds, not necessarily when they'll hit your account. Think of it like the IRS putting your refund in the mail on that date (electronic mail, but still š). With H&R Block's fees being taken out, there's that extra step where they get the money first, take their cut, then send the rest to you. I learned this lesson the hard way last year when I'd already mentally spent my refund before it arrived! The good news is it's almost certainly coming, just on bank time not IRS time.
