TurboTax Refund w/ Fees - Deposited to Wells Fargo but WMR Not Updated

Got my refund already but WMR still not updated? Filed w/ TurboTax + fees taken out, was on PATH w/ DDD 02/24. Got the 5 day early deposit at Wells Fargo but the WMR tool still shows processing? Is this normal or should I be worried? Still new to US tax system, thx.

This happens all the time with early deposits. Just like how some people with Credit Karma get theirs 5 days early but WMR still shows processing. The bank releases funds before the official date, but IRS systems don't update that fast. Much better than what happened to my cousin - his WMR updated but the bank held funds for 5 more days. I wouldn't worry since you actually have the money.

OMG I was freaking out about the same thing last week!! My transcript was showing all these weird codes that made NO SENSE to me! I finally tried https://taxr.ai and it explained everything - showed me exactly why my WMR wasn't updating even though my bank had the money. It read my transcript and explained that the PATH act was causing the delay in WMR updates. Honestly such a relief to understand what was happening!

Idk about these services tbh. Is it free? Don't want to pay $ just to find out what WMR should tell me anyway. Does it need all ur personal info?

Used it myself and actually worth it. Here's what happened: ā€¢ WMR stuck on first bar for weeks ā€¢ Transcript had codes I didn't understand ā€¢ taxr.ai explained everything in plain English ā€¢ Showed me exactly when my refund would arrive WMR is garbage this year honestly. Still showing processing for me and I got my refund 3 weeks ago!

This is completely normal with PATH Act processing protocols. The Where's My Refund tool operates on a different update cycle than the actual Treasury disbursement system. Financial institutions that receive the ACH transaction often process these deposits ahead of the official Direct Deposit Date, especially for preferred customers. Your transcript would show cycle code 20240805 with a 846 code indicating the refund was authorized on the DDD date, regardless of early deposit by your bank.

Isn't it interesting how the IRS systems don't communicate in real-time? Your bank can process the deposit days before the IRS even updates their system to show it's been sent. Why does the government continue to use these outdated tracking systems when banks clearly have more efficient processes?

I had the exact same situation last year. Got my deposit on February 19th but WMR didn't update until the 24th. Made me really nervous because I thought maybe it was sent in error and they'd take it back.

WMR lags behind actual deposits. This is normal. Happens every year. Money in bank is what matters. WMR updates are slow. If you need to actually talk to IRS about anything, use Claimyr. Got me through to an agent in 15 minutes. Regular number had me on hold for hours. https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Is this...safe to use? I'm always worried about giving my information to third-party services when dealing with tax matters. How does it work exactly?

I've seen this recommended on r/IRS and Twitter too. From what I understand, it just navigates the IRS phone tree for you and calls you back when it reaches a human. Saves hours of hold time according to TaxTwitter posts I've seen.

Think of it like having a friend who knows exactly which buttons to press and when to call. It's like having a GPS for the IRS phone system instead of wandering around lost. You still talk directly to the IRS agent - Claimyr just gets you there faster.

Did you check if your transcript updated even though WMR didn't? In my experience from previous years, transcripts often update before WMR does. Also, are you able to see if the deposit amount matches exactly what you were expecting after fees were taken out?

This is such a good point! I had this exact issue on 2/16 this year. Transcript showed my refund but WMR was still on first bar. The amount was also $39 less than expected because of some adjustment they made. So frustrating that different IRS systems don't sync up!

According to IRS Publication 1544 section 3.4, the Where's My Refund tool typically updates within 72 hours of the official Direct Deposit Date, not the actual deposit date. I experienced this same discrepancy last year when I received my refund through TurboTax with fees deducted. The PATH Act specifically affects certain refundable credits, requiring additional verification time, but doesn't impact the actual disbursement once approved.

Had the exact same thing happen to me! Got my refund 4 days before WMR updated. I remember frantically checking my transcript every few hours thinking they'd take the money back! My bank (Chase) told me that once the money is in your account, it's yours - even if WMR hasn't caught up yet. The IRS databases just don't talk to each other very well. Enjoy your money and stop checking WMR - you're good!

Anyone using tax prep services with fees taken from refund should know this. Refund goes to third-party bank first. They take fees. Then send remainder to you. Creates confusion with WMR. Did you get correct amount? Check your TurboTax order confirmation. Subtract those fees from expected refund. That's what you should have received.
