H&R Block Direct Deposit Issues: MI Treasury forcing paper checks instead of DD
Just got off the phone with Michigan Treasury and found out why so many refunds are coming as paper checks instead of direct deposit. Apparently there's a widespread issue with H&R Block submissions where the direct deposit info isn't showing up in their system. If you filed through H&R Block and picked direct deposit, you might end up getting a paper check instead.

Tax professional here - this is actually a known issue affecting multiple states, not just Michigan. The problem stems from a data transmission error between H&R Block's software and state tax systems. If you're waiting on your refund, check your state's where's my refund tool to see if they've defaulted to sending you a paper check.
