GOT MY REFUND DATE!!! But used a closed bank account π©
YEAH I GOT MY DATE!!! FILED 2/14 yassssssss βΌοΈβΌοΈπ. I just knew I didn't have to verify! My only issue now is I used a close bank account. Do I need to call IRS to issue me a check or is it automatically??

Congrats on getting your date! Unfortunately, when your direct deposit bounces due to a closed account, the IRS system automatically converts it to a paper check. The downside is this adds about 2-4 weeks to your timeline. You'll receive the check at the mailing address on your tax return.

This happened to me last year! The bank rejected the deposit and about 3 weeks later I got a paper check in the mail. The IRS doesn't notify you about this switch - you just have to wait. Keep checking your informed delivery from USPS if you have that set up.

Ughhhhh 3 weeks?! π I was counting on that money for my car payment next week. Is there ANY way to speed it up?

You can try calling the IRS, but honestly they'll just tell you the same thing - it's automatically converted to a check. I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent when this happened to me. They got me connected in like 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. The agent confirmed my check was already being processed and gave me the exact mail date. At least then you know exactly when to expect it instead of checking your mailbox every day like I did! π¬

β’Does Claimyr actually work? I've been trying to reach the IRS for a week about my amended return.

β’100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after spending hours on hold. They basically keep redialing for you until they get through, then call you to connect. Worth every penny when you need to talk to an actual human at the IRS.

If you have your transcript access, you can check your account transcript to see if they've already scheduled the paper check. Look for code 846 with a description like "refund issued" - that will show the date they're sending it out.

β’Try using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript. It explains all those confusing IRS codes in plain English and can tell you exactly what's happening with your refund. It helped me figure out that my check was already processed when I had a similar situation with a closed account. Saved me from calling the IRS altogether.

Just be patient. The IRS is actually pretty good about sending out paper checks once they know the direct deposit failed. And make sure your address is current with USPS - that's where they'll send it!
