Form 4800C Verification - Timeline for Refund After Submission?

Had to submit Form 4800C for identity verification last week. Documentation's been submitted per IRS protocol but no movement on my refund status. WMR still shows processing. Anyone else gone through the 4800C verification process recently? Specifically looking for timeline data on how long after submission until refund was released. TIA.

I went through this exact process about a month ago. Submitted my 4800C with all the required documentation on March 2nd, and my refund was deposited on March 23rd - so exactly 21 days for me. The WMR tool didn't update until about 3 days before the deposit though, which was nerve-wracking! I remember checking it obsessively and then suddenly one morning it showed approved with a DDD. Make sure you kept your confirmation number from when you submitted - that was super helpful when I had to follow up.

If I may ask, did you perhaps receive any sort of confirmation email after your submission? I'm wondering if there might be some variability in processing times depending on the complexity of one's tax situation or perhaps regional processing centers.

The 4800C is like the IRS equivalent of airport security - necessary but frustrating! In my case, it was like being stuck in the TSA PreCheck line watching everyone else zoom through regular security. Submitted mine in early February and got the refund exactly 18 days later. The system is weirdly efficient once they have what they need - like a printer that suddenly works after you've threatened to throw it out the window.

OMG this is EXACTLY what I'm going through right now!!! Submitted my 4800C last Tuesday and NOTHING has changed on WMR. Still stuck on the first bar! Did your transcript update before WMR did? I'm checking both like a crazy person.

I was in the same boat last month. Tried using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze my transcript while waiting for the 4800C verification to process. It showed exactly what was happening with my return - pointed out the specific verification hold codes and explained what each meant. Much more helpful than the vague WMR status. The site predicted my refund date within 2 days of when I actually received it, even with the 4800C delay factored in. Definitely less stressful than constantly checking WMR with no real information.

Hmm, not sure if another paid service is the answer here. The IRS systems eventually update on their own schedule. Does this actually speed anything up or just tell you what's already happening?

I had never heard of this form before my return got flagged this year! I was so confused when they said I needed to verify my identity. My accountant charges $75 just to answer questions about this stuff, so having something that explains what's happening would have been nice.

I've been through this verification process twice now (thanks to identity theft a few years back). First time I was completely in the dark about what was happening. Second time I used that transcript analyzer and at least understood what stage my return was in. Didn't make it process any faster but saved me from calling the IRS every other day.

I had a similar situation and tried calling the regular IRS number about 20 times with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They confirmed my 4800C was received and being processed, and gave me a much more specific timeline than the website. The agent said my verification was in the queue and should be completed within 7-10 business days. I believe it may be worth considering this approach if you're concerned about your submission status. The service connected me to an agent in about 15 minutes after I had spent days trying on my own.

Is this legit? Seems sketchy to pay someone just to call the IRS for you. How does it even work?

Used this last year during peak season when I couldn't get through for TWO WEEKS. They literally just keep calling and navigating the phone tree until they get a human, then transfer you to the call. Saved me hours of frustration and hold music. Worth every penny when you're waiting on thousands in refund money.

I think I should clarify that when I used this service, they didn't ask for any personal tax information. They simply connected me to an IRS representative, at which point I provided my details directly to the IRS agent. It was essentially just a way to avoid the endless busy signals and hold times.

• Submitted my 4800C on February 12th • WMR didn't update for 25 days straight • Transcript finally updated on March 8th with code 571 (resolution) • Refund deposited March 11th The most frustrating part was the complete lack of updates. The IRS verification department and the refund department apparently don't talk to each other at all. I called three times and got three completely different answers about timeline. Total waste of time and mental energy.

I've seen a few people mention trying to upload their documentation through the online portal, but in my experience, mailing the documents with certified return receipt is sometimes more reliable. The online system can be glitchy, especially during peak filing season. If you haven't received any confirmation of receipt after about 5 business days, it might be worth calling to confirm they have your documents. I know waiting is frustrating, but from what I've observed, most 4800C verifications are being processed within 3-4 weeks currently.

Went through this exact process last filing season. Submitted my 4800C on February 8th and got my refund on March 2nd, so just over 3 weeks. The key was making sure I submitted EXACTLY what they asked for - no more, no less. I made the mistake of sending too much documentation the first time (thought I was being helpful) and they rejected it and made me resubmit. The second time I followed their instructions to the letter and it went through without issues. Hope this helps and good luck!

Did you get any kind of notification when they accepted your documentation, or did you just suddenly see your refund status change?

I can confirm this is accurate. I had a similar experience where I initially provided additional supporting documents thinking it would expedite my verification, but it actually delayed the process. When I resubmitted with precisely what was requested, my verification was completed much more quickly.
