How Long After ID Verification Until Refund Is Released?
Just completed my identity verification with the IRS and wondering about timeframes for receiving my refund. • Filed electronically on March 3rd, 2024 • Received letter 5071C requesting verification on March 28th • Completed ID verification online yesterday • WMR still shows "being processed" Does anyone know the typical timeline for refund release after verification is complete? Need to plan for some upcoming medical expenses for my mother.

It varies. No fixed timeline. Some get it in 9 days. Others wait 3-4 weeks. Depends on your specific case. The verification only confirms your identity. They still need to process your return. Be patient.

• Is there any way to check the status after verification? • Does the WMR tool update with new information? • Should OP contact the IRS directly if nothing changes after a certain period?

I think it might also depend on what triggered the verification in the first place. My sister-in-law had to verify last year, and it seemed like her return was basically put on hold until that step was complete, then resumed normal processing. She probably waited about 2 weeks, if I recall correctly.

I tracked 37 cases of post-verification timelines on a tax forum last year. The average wait was 14.3 days from verification to direct deposit. The shortest was 7 days, longest was 31 days. Most people (68%) received their refund within 21 days of verification. Your transcript should update before WMR does. Check that every Tuesday and Thursday morning at exactly 3:30am ET when the system refreshes. I feel for you - the waiting is the hardest part, especially when you're caring for someone.

The verification backlog is significant this tax season due to heightened security protocols. Standard processing time post-verification is 9-21 business days according to IRS Publication 5027. If you need immediate assistance regarding your case status, Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) can connect you with an actual IRS representative in minutes instead of the typical 2+ hour hold times. Cost-effective if you're facing time constraints related to your mother's medical expenses.

I've heard about services like this, but I'm not entirely convinced they're necessary in most cases. Wouldn't the standard IRS procedures eventually resolve this without additional expense? That said, I suppose if there's an urgent need for the funds for medical care, the expedited contact could be worth considering.

I waited exactly 15 days after verification last month. The refund came with no additional notice. Just showed up in my account. Check your transcript for code 846 - that's the refund issued code. If you see a 570 code, that means there's still a hold. A 971 means they sent you another notice. The system is backed up this year, so be patient but keep checking.

OMG I was in the EXACT same situation last year and it was so frustrating! I finally tried using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it was a game changer! 😅 It explained all those confusing codes and gave me a predicted refund date that was spot on! The site showed me exactly what was happening with my return after verification and why there was still a delay. Saved me so much anxiety during the waiting period! https://www.taxr.ai

Thx for the rec! Never heard of this before. Does it work w/ any transcript or just certain types? Might give it a try since the IRS site is so confusing w/ all those codes. Just happy to hear there's something that might help make sense of this mess.

Be careful about counting on a specific timeline. My verification took 3 weeks last year, but my friend who filed the same week got his in 8 days. It's like comparing a DMV visit in a small town versus New York City - totally different experiences depending on your specific situation. If your return is simple like a 1040 with W-2 only, it'll be faster than someone with self-employment or complicated credits.

Has anyone had luck checking the IRS2Go app after verification? The website keeps giving me the generic "still processing" message, but I heard the app sometimes shows different info?

The post-verification process is like a plane in a holding pattern - you've been cleared to land but there are still other planes ahead of you. Most of us see updates within 2 weeks, but the IRS doesn't prioritize based on when you verified - they process in batches based on internal factors we can't see. Keep checking your transcript for the 846 code, that's your boarding pass to refund-ville.

I just went through this exact process and got my refund yesterday! Here's what happened: 1. Received letter asking for verification on March 15 2. Verified online March 17 3. Transcript updated with 571 code (resolved hold) on March 27 4. 846 code appeared April 1 5. Money in my account April 3 Total time from verification to deposit: 17 days. The key was watching my transcript, not WMR which never updated until after I got the money.
