First Time Filer Confused: After ID Verification, Transcript Shows N/A with Date Changed from May 1st to May 22nd

First time filing taxes and totally lost. I verified my identity a week ago and IRS said refund would come in 3 weeks. My transcript is showing N/A everywhere with $0.00 amounts. The only change I see is my date moved from May 1st to May 23rd yesterday. Is this a good sign or should I be worried? I'm checking the IRS website (sa.www4.irs.gov) on my Metro by T-Mobile phone, and I can see that my transcript has "LOW SIGNIFIES A CREDIT AMOUNT" at the top. The transcript shows "AS OF: May 22, 2023" twice on the page. Under the section that says "THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED **" everything is showing N/A with $0.00 amounts. I'm really confused because when I verified my identity through the IRS verification process, the representative told me I should expect my refund within 3 weeks. But now the only change I'm seeing is that my "as of" date moved from May 1st to May 22nd. Does this date change mean they're processing my return? Or is something wrong with my filing? I don't understand what "LOW SIGNIFIES A CREDIT AMOUNT" means either - does that have something to do with my refund?

Hey there! I see your transcript is showing N/A after ID verify and cycle date changes. This is actually pretty common for first time filers. The N/A usually shows up when the IRS is still processing your verification - it's not necessarily a bad thing! They're just making sure everything checks out. Since you mentioned the date changed from 5/1 to 5/22, that's actually a good sign - it means they're actively working on your return. If you want a really detailed breakdown of your situation, I'd recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when you can expect your refund. It helped me understand all the weird codes and dates on my transcript when I was in the same boat.

holy cow this is actually amazing! 🙌 it told me exactly why my transcript was showing N/A and when it should update. way better than waiting on hold with the IRS for 2 hours just to get hung up on 🤡

Tax pro here - the date change is actually a good sign! After identity verification, it typically takes 9 weeks (not 3) for everything to process fully. Your transcript showing N/A is normal right now because your return hasn't been fully processed yet. Keep checking weekly.

omg thank u so much! 9 weeks tho?? 😭 they told me 3 weeks on the phone

Yeah the phone reps often give incorrect timeframes tbh. The 9 weeks is straight from the IRS processing guidelines.

Not a scam at all! It basically reads your transcript and explains everything in plain English. Shows you all the important dates and codes and what they mean for your refund.

Hey Amara! I totally feel your pain as a fellow first-timer 😅 The N/A showing up after ID verification is actually super normal - it basically means the IRS is still working through your case after confirming your identity. The date change from 5/1 to 5/22 is definitely a good sign! It shows they're actively processing your return. That "LOW SIGNIFIES A CREDIT AMOUNT" message you're seeing just means that negative numbers on your transcript would represent credits (like your refund). Since everything is showing $0.00 right now, it's just because they haven't finished processing yet. The 3-week timeline the phone rep gave you was probably a bit optimistic - after ID verification, it usually takes closer to 6-9 weeks total. I know it's frustrating to wait, but that date change is progress! Keep checking your transcript weekly and hang in there 💪

This is super helpful! I'm also a first-timer and was getting worried about the N/A showing up. Good to know that 6-9 weeks is more realistic than what they told me on the phone 😬 At least the date change means something is happening behind the scenes!
