Filed Jan 18, Accepted Jan 23 - Still Waiting for 846 Code with Cycle 0605
I'm trying to understand the IRS processing pattern here. I filed exactly on January 18th and got accepted on January 23rd. It's been 62 days and I'm still waiting for that 846 code to show up. Looking at my transcript, there are no issues showing, but the cycle dates seem out of order - some people with later filing dates already got their dates while I'm still waiting. I'm in cycle 0605 and used H&R Block. WMR still shows the PATH Act message. Anyone else in a similar situation or can explain what's happening with the cycles?

I feel your pain! I filed on January 20th and was accepted on January 22nd. Here we are on March 21st, and I'm still waiting too. From what I've gathered, cycle 0605 means your account updates on Thursdays, so you should check your transcript again tomorrow morning. The PATH Act delay officially ended on February 15th, but many of us are still waiting. Have you checked if your transcript shows any 570/971 codes? Those could indicate a hold.

If you're tired of waiting in uncertainty, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent. The Processing Queue Algorithm (PQA) sometimes flags returns for additional verification without any notification to the taxpayer. An agent can see exactly where your return is in the pipeline and whether there are any internal holds not visible on your transcript. I used them last week and got connected in about 17 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait time. Here's their link: https://www.claimyr.com Many cycle 0605 taxpayers are experiencing Extended Processing Timeframes (EPTs) this year despite having no apparent issues.

I'm somewhat skeptical about these services that claim to get you through to the IRS faster. Do they actually work as advertised? I'm wondering if it's worth the cost when you might eventually get through on your own if you're persistent enough.

Just got my DD today after being in the same boat as u! Filed 1/22, accepted 1/25, cycle 0605. No movement for WEEKS then boom - transcript updated last Thurs w/ 846 code and refund hit my acct this AM. The key was checking transcripts not WMR. WMR was useless tbh, still showed processing even after I got paid lol. Hang in there!

How many days exactly was it between your 846 code appearing and the deposit hitting your account? I got my 846 code exactly 7 days ago with a date of 03/27/2024, but nothing in my account yet.

Oh my goodness! I'm in the exact same cycle as you were! I've been checking my transcript every single day and nothing has changed! Did you have any 570/971 codes before getting your 846? I'm so stressed about this!

This is typical for cycle 0605 compared to other cycles like 0505 or 0705. In 2023, I was cycle 0505 and received my refund 14 days earlier than my sister who was 0605. This year I'm 0605 and experiencing the same delay. It's like being in the slow checkout lane at the grocery store - some processing batches just move faster than others.

To clarify for those unfamiliar with cycle codes: the first two digits (05) indicate the IRS processing center, while the last two (05) indicate the day of the week your account updates - 05 is Thursday. The system processes in batches, and some batches are prioritized based on various factors including claimed credits and complexity of return.

Like watching water boil, isn't it? I was stuck in the same situation last year and found https://taxr.ai to be incredibly helpful. It's like having a translator for all those cryptic transcript codes and cycle dates. When you're in the dark about what's happening with your refund, it's like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded. This tool decoded my transcript and even predicted my deposit date within 24 hours of when it actually arrived. Felt like I finally had a map instead of just wandering around hoping to find the exit!

Here's what's actually happening with your return: • Cycle code 0605 = your account updates on Thursdays • PATH Act = IRS can't issue refunds for certain credits until Feb 15th • H&R Block = no impact on processing speed The solution is straightforward: • Check transcript every Thursday morning • Ignore WMR (it's often delayed by 5-7 days) • If no update by April 1st, you should call IRS The processing sequence isn't strictly first-come-first-served. The IRS batches returns, and some batches move faster than others. Your return isn't necessarily delayed - it's just in a slower-moving batch.

Last year I was also cycle 0605 and had a similar experience. How can you tell if your return has been selected for review versus just being in a slow batch? Is there a specific code or indicator to look for?

When you call the IRS, what specific information should we ask for? And what's the best time to call to minimize wait times?

Haha, the IRS and their mysterious ways! 😅 I was stuck in processing limbo last year too. Turns out I had a simple math error that held things up for weeks. The funny thing is, once I finally got through to a human, they fixed it in like 2 minutes. Sometimes the system just needs a human nudge to get things moving again.

Let me walk you through what's likely happening: Step 1: Your return was accepted (this just means it passed basic validation) Step 2: It entered the processing queue in cycle 0605 Step 3: The PATH Act put a hold on returns with certain credits Step 4: After Feb 15, returns are released from PATH hold in batches Step 5: Your batch is still waiting to be processed I was in the exact same situation last year. My return was accepted on Jan 24th but I didn't get my refund until March 30th. No issues on my transcript either. The processing is not strictly first-come-first-served - it depends on which processing batch you end up in.

Is there any way to determine which batch you're in? Or is it completely random?

Watch out for 2024 delays. They're worse than last year. I filed January 15. Accepted same day. Cycle 0605 too. Still waiting. Called IRS twice. No help. They just say "still processing." My friend filed February 1. Already got refund. Makes no sense. System seems random. Don't count on refund timing for important expenses. IRS doesn't follow their own timelines.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet - have you checked if you have any offsets that could be affecting your refund? Sometimes there are no issues on the transcript but there's an offset for past-due federal debts, state taxes, child support, etc. that can delay processing. You can call the TOP (Treasury Offset Program) at 800-304-3107 to check if you have any offsets. Also, did you claim any recovery rebate credits or anything unusual that might trigger additional review?
