Cycle 05 - Filed 1/30, WMR Shows PATH Act, When Will Transcript Update with DDD?
E-filed and received acceptance confirmation on 1/30/2024. According to IRS Publication 1345 Section 7.1, electronic returns should be processed within 21 days. WMR has now updated to show PATH Act verification is in progress. My transcript appears to be in good standing with no apparent issues or holds, but I'm still waiting on the Direct Deposit Date. Based on previous filing seasons and IRS procedural guidelines, does anyone know when cycle 05 transcripts typically update with a DDD? Looking for factual information based on the current processing timeline.

Cycle 05 transcripts typically update on Thursdays, sometimes as early as Wednesday night between 11pm-1am EST. I've been through this for the past three tax seasons. With PATH Act verification in progress, you're probably looking at a DDD within the next 7-10 days. Last year I was in the exact same boat - filed end of January, PATH hold, then got my DDD exactly 9 days after WMR updated to show PATH verification.

This information is quite helpful, thank you. I believe you're generally correct about the Thursday updates, though in some cases, there might possibly be slight variations depending on the IRS processing center workload. I've been tracking my transcript rather methodically for the past week.

Are you seeing the 570/971 codes on your transcript? Mine has those and I'm trying to figure out if that's normal for PATH verification or if it means something else?

I just want to clarify something if you don't mind - when you say PATH verification, do you mean specifically for EITC/ACTC credits? I'm in a similar situation but wasn't sure if I'm under PATH since I only claimed standard deductions.

Anyone know if the "PATH" message means there's actually a problem or is this just standard procedure? 😅 I'm in the same boat - filed early February and just got the PATH message yesterday. Starting to get a little nervous about when I'll actually see my refund...

Think of the PATH Act like a traffic light that turns red for everyone claiming certain credits. It's not that there's anything wrong with your car (tax return), it's just that the IRS is required by law to stop and check these returns more carefully before letting them through the intersection. Does that make sense?

According to Internal Revenue Code Section 6402(m) and the PATH Act provisions, this is a mandatory verification process for returns claiming EITC, ACTC, or AOTC. The IRS cannot issue refunds before mid-February for these returns. I'm concerned that some early filers might still be waiting, but this delay is statutorily required, not indicative of problems with your return.

I was stuck in PATH verification hell last year for WEEKS. This year I used https://taxr.ai to decode my transcript and it was a lifesaver. Showed me exactly what each code meant for MY situation and predicted my DDD correctly to the day. The site explained that cycle 05 means your account updates on Thursdays, and once you see code 846 with a date, that's your direct deposit date. Saved me so much anxiety compared to last year's guessing game.

Does this site actually tell you anything you can't find with a Google search? I've looked up all these codes myself and found explanations. Is it really worth using another service just to read information that's already public?

Here's what you need to know about cycle codes and transcript updates: 1. First, determine your actual cycle code - it should be a 4-digit number followed by 05 (like 202405) 2. Cycle 05 means your account updates on Thursdays 3. Transcripts generally update overnight between Wednesday and Thursday 4. WMR typically updates 24-72 hours AFTER transcript updates 5. PATH verification can add 1-3 weeks to normal processing time I'd be cautious about anyone promising exact dates. The IRS systems are notoriously unpredictable, especially during peak season.

After waiting 3 weeks with WMR showing PATH and no transcript updates, I finally called the IRS using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Got through in 18 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. The agent confirmed my return was just waiting for final processing and gave me my DDD which showed up on my transcript the next day. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get answers.

OMG this thread is EXACTLY what I needed!!! I've been freaking out because I'm also cycle 05 and stuck in PATH verification! It's my first time dealing with this and I was so worried something was wrong with my return. The information here is SO helpful - especially about the Thursday updates and what to look for on transcripts. I feel so much better knowing this is normal and there's actually a system to it! 🙏

Thanks for sharing. Didn't know about cycles. Makes sense now why updates seem to happen on specific days.

I've been through this PATH verification process three years in a row now. Last year I got my DDD exactly 9 days after the PATH message appeared on WMR. The year before it was 12 days. This year it was only 7 days. It varies, but cycle 05 is definitely a Thursday update cycle. The transcript will update first, then WMR usually updates the following day or two. My experience is that once you get past PATH verification, things move pretty quickly.
