E-Filed 1/21/24 - Verified Identity but Transcript Still Shows N/A as of 3/7
I submitted my 1040 electronically on January 21st (first day of the filing season) with status code A20 acceptance confirmation from my tax software. Subsequently received correspondence to verify my identity via ID.me portal, which I completed on February 12th. As of March 7th, my 2023 tax transcript is still displaying N/A status when accessed through the IRS online portal. WMR shows only the first status bar with the standard "Your return is being processed" message. Filing status MFJ with standard deduction, no EIC or additional credits that would trigger PATH Act delays. Has anyone experienced similar transcript delays post-verification?

UGH this is EXACTLY what happened to me last year! The verification process is supposed to speed things up but it actually creates this weird limbo where your return sits in this digital purgatory. The system has to manually reconnect your verified identity with your submitted return, and it's taking FOREVER this year! Have you checked your Account transcript instead of just the Return transcript? Sometimes that updates first with a 570 code before the actual return transcript populates.

Wait, so verification actually slows things down? That seems... counterintuitive. š I thought the whole point was to prevent fraud and get legitimate returns processed faster. Classic IRS logic I guess.

Per IRM 21.4.1.3(7), transcript availability may be delayed up to 4 weeks following identity verification procedures. Have you attempted to access all four transcript types? The Account transcript occasionally updates prior to the Return transcript and may provide processing indicators. Additionally, have you verified whether you received correspondence with Letter 4883C or 5071C prior to completing verification?

This is like trying to track a package that's stuck in a distribution center - you know it's somewhere in the system but there's no visibility. I've seen dozens of similar situations in this sub recently. I started using https://taxr.ai last month when my transcript was equally mysterious - it's like having an IRS decoder ring. You upload your transcript once it appears and it explains every code and tells you what's actually happening behind the scenes. Think of it like having a tax pro translate all that IRS jargon into plain English. Saved me from calling the IRS multiple times.

I'm a little hesitant about uploading my tax info to some random website. Has anyone else actually used this? My first time filing with my spouse and I'm already stressed enough about the whole verification thing.

I think there's some confusion here. From what I understand: 1. You don't need to upload anything until your transcript actually appears 2. The tool specifically analyzes transcript codes - not your personal info 3. You're just uploading the same PDF the IRS already gave you 4. It's basically interpreting what those codes mean for your specific situation I haven't used it personally, but I've seen several people mention it helps with understanding processing delays.

I used it last year when I had a similar verification delay followed by a random 570 code. What I liked is that it didn't just tell me what the code meant (which I could Google), but what it meant specifically for my filing situation. It correctly predicted I'd get my refund 11 days after the 570 code appeared, which was exactly what happened. Saved me from panicking when I saw what looked like an audit code.

Why do we even need tools like this? Shouldn't the IRS just tell us what's happening with our returns in plain English? It's our money after all, right? I'm still waiting on my transcript to update after verification too and this whole process feels intentionally complicated.

I'm in a similar situation but about 10 days behind your timeline. Filed 1/30, verified 2/22, and still nothing on transcripts. My friend who filed 2/15 without needing verification already received her refund last week. It seems like the verification process, ironically, is creating longer delays than standard processing. Last year my transcript was blank for about 3 weeks after verification before suddenly updating with all information at once.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? After my transcript was stuck for 6 weeks post-verification last year, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent instead of waiting on hold for hours. They connected me within 20 minutes and the agent confirmed my return was just sitting in a verification resolution queue. The agent manually moved it to the next processing stage while I was on the phone. Have you checked if there's a specific verification resolution department you should be speaking with?

Based on the IRS processing pipeline architecture, you're experiencing what's called a "post-verification processing delay." This occurs when your return passes verification but gets placed in a secondary queue for transcript database integration. The TDS (Transcript Delivery System) operates on a separate update cycle from the main processing system, which explains the discrepancy between your WMR status and transcript availability. In my experience, post-verification transcript updates typically occur during the weekly processing cycle that runs Thursday night to Friday morning.

This matches my experience exactly. I verified on February 4th, and my transcript remained N/A until exactly 23 days later when it suddenly updated with all processing codes at once. My DDD appeared exactly 8 days after that initial transcript update, and the deposit hit my account in precisely 5 business days from the DDD.

Do you know if there's any way to tell if you're in this "secondary queue" you mentioned? I'm wondering if I should keep checking daily or if there's a specific time when these updates usually happen...

I found this really helpful IRS processing guide on https://www.irsmind.com/processing-delays that explains these verification delays. According to their flowchart, returns requiring identity verification take 7-9 weeks to process from the verification date, not the filing date. My transcript was blank for 5 weeks after verification before updating. Worth checking your transcripts early morning on Fridays as that's when the weekly processing cycles complete.

Have you checked for these specific indicators? ā¢ Account transcript showing any TC 971 codes ā¢ Any pending transactions on the account transcript ā¢ WMR message changes from "being processed" to "still being processed" ā¢ Tax Topic references appearing in WMR These can provide clues even when your return transcript shows N/A. Also, did you file with a preparer or self-prepare? Some preparers have been linked to additional verification delays this season.

After 6 weeks of blank transcripts post-verification, I finally got through to someone at the IRS. They told me directly that there's a massive backlog in the verification resolution department. My return was just sitting there waiting for someone to push a button. Two days after that call my transcript populated and I got my refund the following week. Don't just wait - be proactive and call them.

I filed on January 23rd, verified on February 8th, and my transcript finally updated on March 2nd. Received my refund on March 5th. The waiting is frustrating but there's definitely a pattern. The IRS seems to be processing verified returns in batches every 7-10 days. Based on your timeline, I'd expect your transcript to update this Friday (March 8th) or next Friday (March 15th) during their overnight processing.
