Filed 1/16, Cycle Code 20250505, As of Date Changed from 03/03 to 02/24 - No 846 Yet?
Hello everyone! I wanted to share my current situation with my tax return and see if anyone else is in the same boat. Here's what's happened so far: 1. I filed on January 16th, 2025 2. Return was accepted on January 17th, 2025 3. I have PATH Act credits on my return 4. My cycle code is 20250505 5. I haven't received an 846 code yet (direct deposit date) The interesting thing is that my "as of date" just changed from 03/03 to 02/24. Has anyone else experienced this? Does this mean my refund is getting closer? I'm trying to stay calm but I'm getting a bit anxious as I've been waiting for a while now. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

The as of date change is actually a good sign! I was in a similar situation on January 29th when my as of date changed from 03/10 to 02/19. I received my 846 code exactly 7 days after that change. The cycle code 20250505 means you're on a weekly update schedule (05 at the end indicates updates on Thursdays/Fridays). With PATH Act returns, there's a mandatory hold until at least February 15th, which has now passed. Based on your timeline, I'd expect your 846 to appear on your transcript either this Thursday night or Friday morning's update.

Wait, so the as of date changing is definitely a positive indicator? I've seen people on r/IRS saying it doesn't mean anything and the IRS just randomly updates it. Can you explain why you think it's connected to getting the 846 code?

It's like watching a pot of water about to boil - the as of date change is like seeing those first tiny bubbles forming at the bottom. In my experience (filed for 7 years with PATH credits), when the as of date moves backward instead of forward, it's like the IRS saying "we're wrapping this up earlier than expected." Almost every time this happened to me, I got my DDD within 7-10 days. Think of it as the IRS adjusting their internal deadline for your case.

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed 1/15, accepted 1/16, cycle code 20250505, and my as of date just changed from 03/10 to 02/24 yesterday. Do you have any 570/971 codes on your transcript? Or is it just showing processed with no refund date yet? Did you claim EIC or ACTC? I'm wondering if we'll both get our DDDs in the same batch update.

This is classic PATH Act timing. Your return is moving through the process normally, but you're at the stage where many people get stuck trying to reach the IRS for status updates. If you need to confirm everything's on track (especially with that as of date change), use Claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent quickly. I had to call about my PATH Act return last year - spent 3 hours on redial before discovering Claimyr. Got through to an agent in about 18 minutes who confirmed my return was just in normal processing and nothing was flagged. Saved me days of anxiety wondering if something was wrong.

The cycle code 20250505 is significant here. The '05' at the end indicates you're on the weekly processing cycle, not daily. Weekly cycles typically update Thursday night/Friday morning. The as of date changing from 03/03 to 02/24 often indicates internal processing advancement, but it's not a guaranteed indicator of imminent refund issuance. PATH Act returns (EITC/ACTC) are statutorily held until mid-February regardless of filing date, so your timeline is actually quite normal. Most 05 cycle filers with PATH see their 846 codes appear 1-3 weeks after the February 15th release date. I'd expect your DDD within the next two weekly cycles if there are no compliance issues identified.

Wow, that's exactly the kind of detailed explanation I was hoping for! I had no idea the last digits of the cycle code indicated weekly vs. daily processing. My code ends in 05 too and I've been checking daily like a fool.

So if I have a cycle code ending in 02, does that mean I'm on a different schedule? My as of date hasn't changed at all in 3 weeks. Is that worse than having it change like the original poster?

Does having a 570 code along with this cycle code change anything? My transcript has both.

I'd be careful about getting too excited about the as of date change. Last year, my as of date changed twice before I actually got my refund. The first change was similar to yours - it moved earlier by about a week. I thought that meant my refund was coming soon, but then it changed again and pushed out by three weeks. I ended up waiting another 20 days after that first date change. Not trying to be negative, just suggesting you don't count on that money being available on 2/24.

Hey there! I was literally in this exact situation last week. Same cycle code and everything. My as of date changed from 3/4 to 2/17, and I got my 846 code w/ DDD yesterday morning! IME the as of date change is def a good sign. Usually means they're done reviewing your return and are preparing to issue the refund. Btw, if you have the IRS2Go app, check that too - mine updated there before the WMR site did.

I believe the as of date change is specifically related to the completion of the review process. In my experience working with tax software, this indicates that the return has passed through the automated verification systems and, assuming no issues were flagged, is queued for refund scheduling. The system typically processes these in batches based on cycle codes.

For anyone following this thread, here's how to interpret what's happening: 1. First, your return gets accepted - this just means it passed basic format checks 2. Then it goes into processing - this is where they verify all your information 3. If you claimed PATH Act credits, it's held until at least Feb 15 4. The as of date is when they expect to finish reviewing your return 5. When that date moves earlier, they're finishing sooner than expected 6. Weekly cycle filers (05) get updates on Thursday/Friday 7. The 846 code appears when your refund is scheduled 8. Money typically arrives 5-7 days after the 846 date

This is good info. I've noticed: • As of date changes can be misleading • Weekly cycles are more predictable than daily • PATH Act returns follow different patterns • Most people see movement within 21 days • The anxiety of waiting is universal

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1.3, the cycle code indicates when your return completed processing. Per IRM 21.4.1.3(1), the first two digits (20) represent the year, the next two (25) represent the processing week of the year, and the last digit (5) indicates the processing day within the week. The as of date is a compliance-related marker and does not directly correlate to refund issuance timing. I would recommend checking your account transcript again next Friday morning (after the overnight Thursday update). If PATH Act verification is complete, you should see an 846 code with a direct deposit date, typically 5-7 days after the code appears.

This is really helpful information. I've been filing taxes for 15 years and never knew the exact meaning of each digit in the cycle code. Thank you for breaking that down!

So if my cycle code is 20250502, does that mean my return completed processing on a Tuesday (2) of the 5th week? And would that put me on a different update schedule than the original poster?

Is there any way to see these updates in real-time rather than waiting for the IRS systems to update? My refund is pretty substantial this year and I'm checking multiple times daily.

Just wanted to share some hope - I had almost the EXACT same situation. Filed 1/14, accepted 1/15, cycle code 20250505, and my as of date changed from 03/10 to 02/17 last week. Got my 846 code yesterday with a DDD of 02/28! The system is working, just slowly. The as of date change was definitely the signal that things were moving for me. Hang in there!
