Filed 1/23, Cycle Code 0505 - Still No 846 Code. January Filers Support Group?
Filed 1/23 and accepted same day. I'm cycle 0505 and still haven't received an 846 update. *insert dramatic sigh here* Who else is still waiting in limbo after filing in January? At this point I could've trained carrier pigeons to deliver my refund faster. My transcript is just sitting there mocking me with its lack of deposit date. Technically speaking, I've verified all my info is correct, confirmed my direct deposit details, and there are no holds or verification notices. Just... nothing. The eternal processing void.

I'm in the same hell. Filed 1/19, cycle 0605, transcript shows processing date of 02/12 but still no 846 code. The IRS is full of crap when they claim 21 days for most refunds. Their systems are archaic and can't handle basic processing during peak season. Don't believe the "we're working as fast as we can" nonsense.

Quick question about your transcript: ā¢ Do you have any TC 570/971 combo codes? ā¢ Has your "as of" date changed recently? ā¢ Any indication of verification holds? Trying to see if there's a pattern with these delayed January filings.

I had this exact issue last year with cycle code 0505. According to the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions), cycle codes ending in 05 typically update on Thursdays/Fridays. I'd recommend checking your transcript again tomorrow morning - mine finally updated after 7 weeks of nothing. Just be cautious about calling since they'll likely just tell you to wait.

This is a classic processing delay pattern. Here's what's happening: Step 1: Your return entered the processing queue (cycle 0505 indicates weekly processing) Step 2: It's likely stuck in the verification backlog Step 3: The IRS won't tell you this, but January filers with certain credits often face extended reviews Step 4: Your transcript needs detailed analysis to determine where it is in the pipeline I've seen this exact pattern hundreds of times. I recommend using https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript codes. It can identify subtle patterns that indicate where you are in processing and give you a more accurate timeline than the generic IRS estimates. The system can detect pending actions even when the 846 code isn't present yet.

I'm in a slightly different boat but equally frustrating. Filed 1/25, accepted 1/26, cycle 0705. Compared to last year when I filed in February and got my refund in 10 days, this year has been a nightmare. My cousin filed on 2/15 and already received her refund last week! The inconsistency in processing times makes absolutely no sense. Early filers seem to be getting the worst treatment, which is completely backward from how it should work.

I'm sort of in the same situation, I think? Filed on 1/29, accepted same day, and I'm pretty sure my cycle code is 0505 too. I've been checking WMR almost daily and it just shows the first bar. I'm kind of worried because I claimed the Child Tax Credit, and I've heard that might delay things? This is my first time filing with dependents so I'm not really sure what's normal.

When I claimed CTC last year, it took exactly 42 days to get my refund. The PATH Act requires the IRS to hold refunds with certain credits until mid-February, but we're well past that now. Check your transcript for code 570 (refund hold) followed by 971 (notice issued). If you don't see those, you're probably just in the regular processing queue. My refund came about 8 days after my transcript updated with an 846 code.

Did you receive any letters from the IRS? I waited 8 weeks last year only to find out they needed identity verification.

Wait, does having dependents automatically put you in the PATH Act hold? I thought that was only for Earned Income Credit claims?

I've been through this exact situation before. The PATH Act affects both the Earned Income Credit AND the Additional Child Tax Credit. The regular Child Tax Credit isn't subject to the same hold, but having dependents does trigger additional verification steps in the IRS system. Back in 2022, I waited 52 days with a similar situation - no errors, just extended processing time.

I filed on January 24, 2024 and was accepted immediately. My transcript showed processing date of February 19, 2024, but I've had zero movement since then. After waiting exactly 45 days, I decided to call the IRS on March 9, 2024. Spent 3 hours on hold before getting disconnected. Tried again on March 10, 2024 - same result. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) on March 11, 2024 and got through to an agent in 22 minutes. They confirmed my return was in the processing queue with no flags but couldn't give me a timeline. At least I know it's not lost in the system now.

Try checking your account transcript. Not just return transcript. Mine showed different info. Return transcript showed nothing. Account transcript had codes. Filed 1/22. Got my deposit yesterday. No warning. No updates on WMR. Just appeared.
