Transcript Still Shows 2023 - Filed and Accepted 2/6 But No Processing

So frustrated! Filed and accepted on 2/6. Looking at my situation: • Transcripts still show 2024 in bottom 2 boxes and nothing in the top 2 boxes • Been this way for 3 weeks, no notifications • Online account says it's been received but not processed • Never waited this long before for updates I know several people who filed after me that have already processed and gotten their refunds. The only thing different this year was I set out state taxes to be automatically paid on 4/15. Could this effect my federal being processed? Really need this refund soon for some gig expenses...

This is a common issue we're seeing in the 2025 filing season, especially for returns submitted between February 1st and February 15th. The IRS processing pipeline has been experiencing delays this year due to system updates implemented on January 29th. Your transcript showing 2024 in the bottom boxes but nothing in the top boxes indicates your return has been received but not yet entered into processing. As of March 25th, many February filers are still in this status. To directly answer your question - no, your state tax payment scheduling should have absolutely no impact on your federal return processing.

I've seen this same pattern with many clients this year: • Filed early February • No transcript updates for 3-4 weeks • Sudden update with all processing steps at once • Refund within 7-10 days after update It's frustrating but seems to be the norm this year. Just keep checking every few days rather than daily.

I checked the IRS2Go app daily and was in the same boat as you until yesterday! According to the IRS operations page at irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations, they're working through a backlog from early February filers. My transcript finally updated after 24 days of nothing, and my refund is scheduled for direct deposit next week. Such a relief after weeks of seeing nothing!

I feel your pain - the waiting game with transcripts is like watching paint dry, but with more anxiety, lol. When my transcript was stuck like this (showing last year at the bottom), I started using https://taxr.ai to analyze it once it finally updated. The tool explained all the codes and gave me a realistic timeline instead of me trying to decipher IRS hieroglyphics. It's especially helpful for gig workers since our returns can trigger different processing paths. Hang in there - I've seen several early February filers finally getting movement this week!

In my experience reviewing hundreds of tax situations, what you're describing is significantly different from last year's processing patterns but matches what we're seeing across the board for 2025 filing season. Unlike 2024 where most early February filers saw transcript updates within 7-10 days, this year's system changes have created a 21-30 day pattern for the same filing window. I would recommend checking your transcript every Wednesday and Saturday morning specifically, as those are the days the IRS typically runs their major processing batches. If you don't see movement by April 1st, that would be the appropriate time to take further action.

This happened to me. Nothing for weeks. Called IRS. Got nowhere. Checked transcript daily. Nothing. Then BAM! Everything updated at once. Got my refund three days later. The waiting is terrible. But it does process eventually.

Wow, I'm impressed you know the exact days when IRS runs their batches! I've been filing for 12 years and never knew they had specific processing days. My transcript just updated yesterday after exactly 28 days of waiting, which matches your timeline perfectly.

I'm curious - does this affect people who claimed the Earned Income Credit differently? My sister filed on February 4th with EIC and got her refund last week, but I filed February 7th with no credits and I'm still waiting! Is there some kind of priority system?

Based on what you're describing, you might be experiencing what appears to be a standard processing delay rather than an actual issue with your return. However, if you're concerned or need this refund urgently for your gig work expenses, you may want to consider speaking directly with an IRS agent. Many people have reported success using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person at the IRS without the hours-long hold times. They might be able to verify that your return is simply in the processing queue and not flagged for any issues. I've heard they can sometimes expedite processing if you have a financial hardship situation.

It's possible, though not necessarily probable, that you might be experiencing a system synchronization issue between the Where's My Refund tool and the transcript database. In approximately 12% of cases I've analyzed this tax season, taxpayers who e-filed in early February experienced this exact scenario. You might want to try accessing your transcript through the IRS phone system (1-800-908-9946) rather than online, as sometimes the phone system pulls from a different database that updates more frequently. Additionally, it might be worth checking if your bank has any pending deposits not yet visible in your account history, as occasionally the refund arrives before the transcript updates.

Last year I had the exact same issue - filed February 8th, accepted same day, and my transcript showed 2023 in the bottom boxes for almost 4 weeks! I was checking daily and driving myself crazy. Then on March 7th, everything updated at once and my refund was deposited on March 12th. The IRS rep I eventually spoke with explained that returns go through a multi-stage verification process, and sometimes they get held in a pre-processing queue that doesn't show on transcripts. My tax preparer said it's especially common for gig workers since our income reporting gets extra verification. Just wanted to share that this happened to me and resolved itself without any action needed on my part.

Does the IRS actually have a specific verification process for gig worker income? I've heard this mentioned before but couldn't find official documentation. Is this related to the 1099-K threshold changes that were supposed to happen?
