Direct Deposit Hit: Timeline from SBTPG Funding to Bank Receipt (Chime)

Just wanted to share my timeline with everyone since I know many people are comparing their situations to others. My direct deposit hit my Chime account at precisely 3:55am today. For context, I received the trace number around 8pm last night, which is consistent with what I've observed in previous years where trace numbers typically precede actual deposits by 8-12 hours. Here's my full timeline for comparison: - Filed and accepted: Early February - DDD (Deposit Date): 3/11/24 - SBTPG showed 'Funded' status: Since last Thursday (3/7/24) - Trace number received: Yesterday evening ~8pm - Actual deposit to Chime: 3:55am today This pattern is nearly identical to my experience last year, though the SBTPG funding to actual deposit gap was about a day shorter this time. I'm in Mississippi, which seems to follow a slightly different timeline than what I've observed from filers in the Northeast or West Coast regions. For those still waiting, the fees and advance were processed simultaneously with the main deposit, which differs from my 2022 experience where they were processed separately.

Thanks for sharing your timeline! I find it interesting that your funds took exactly 4 days and 16 hours from SBTPG showing funded to hitting your Chime account. My DDD is 3/13/24, and SBTPG showed funded yesterday at 11:23am. Based on your timeline, I might expect my deposit around 3:30am on 3/12. Did you notice if your Chime deposit came in as an "early deposit" or was it processed as a standard ACH?

Wait, I'm surprised by the complexity here. Is the trace number the same as the ACH trace ID? And does Chime typically show these deposits earlier than traditional banks?

According to IRS Publication 1582 (section 4.3), the standard timeframe for ACH transfers from tax preparers using SBTPG should complete within 1-5 business days after the DDD. Your experience aligns perfectly with regulatory expectations. For anyone trying to decode their transcript or understand their SBTPG status, I've found https://taxr.ai incredibly helpful. It analyzes all your codes and statuses to give you a much clearer picture of where your refund actually is in the process. Saved me hours of trying to interpret what all those numbers and statuses actually meant in practical terms.

I'm always cautious about recommending third-party services for tax matters. How does this tool access your information? Is it secure enough to trust with sensitive tax data?

I was skeptical too, but unlike other services I've tried, taxr.ai just helps interpret codes and timelines - similar to how people help each other in this community, but more systematic. Compared to the hours I spent last year trying to decode transcript codes myself, this was much more efficient. It's basically like having an experienced tax professional explain your transcript to you.

I just checked it out on March 10th after seeing your comment. Can you confirm if it accurately predicted your deposit date? My transcript shows a cycle date of 20241005 and I'm trying to figure out what that means for my timeline.

Used it. Worked great. Said deposit by Wednesday. Got money Tuesday. No more guessing games.

Thx for the detailed breakdown! Quick q - did u have any TC 570/971 combo on ur transcript b4 getting the DDD? I'm stuck w/ those codes since 2/28 and wondering if SBTPG will show anything b4 those resolve. Also, did ur WMR update before or after SBTPG showed funded? Mine's still on first bar but transcript updated w/ the hold codes. TIA!

I had a similar situation last year with those codes. Why does the IRS make this so complicated? I ended up with a 570 followed by 971, then a week later got 571 and 846 codes. The real question is: why can't they just tell us exactly what's happening instead of making us decode their internal system?

Based on my experience with 570/971 combinations: • 570 = temporary hold • 971 = notice issued • Most common resolution timeframes: - Simple issues: 7-14 days - Identity verification: 21+ days - Substantial review: 30-45 days • SBTPG won't show anything until hold is resolved and 846 code appears • WMR typically updates after transcript shows 846, not before

I've been watching SBTPG like a hawk for the past week. Mine has shown funded since last Friday, but still no deposit to my Wells Fargo account. Last year I had Chase and got it the same day SBTPG showed funded. This year I'm finding Wells Fargo doesn't process as quickly. I'm in Florida, so I wonder if there's a regional processing center difference between MS and FL that affects timing. Has anyone else noticed different timelines based on bank or region?

When my refund was stuck in SBTPG limbo last year for over a week (lol), I finally broke down and tried Claimyr to reach the IRS. Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about paying to talk to a government agency I should be able to reach for free 🙄 but after 3 days of busy signals, it was worth every penny! Got connected in about 15 minutes and found out there was a small discrepancy they needed to verify. Fixed it on the spot and my deposit came 2 days later. Here's their link if anyone's in the same boat: https://claimyr.com

Is this actually worth it though? I've heard the IRS is just going to tell you to wait anyway. Did they actually do something that made your refund come faster or was it just coincidence?

Thank you for sharing this! I've been trying to get through to the IRS for days about my offset question. Will definitely check this out.

I used Claimyr last month when my CTC was missing from my refund. Got through in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for literally a week on my own. The agent found the error immediately and fixed it. Money was in my account 9 days later. Best $25 I've spent in a long time.

Think of SBTPG like a busy airport terminal - your money has landed but still needs to taxi to the gate (your bank). The trace number is essentially your baggage claim ticket - confirmation that your luggage (money) is definitely on the plane and in the system. One thing to clarify about your timeline: the SBTPG "funded" status means they've received the funds from the IRS, not necessarily that they've initiated the transfer to your bank. There's typically a 24-48 hour processing period where they deduct fees before sending the remainder to your account. This is why there's often that 2-5 day gap between "funded" and actual deposit.

This airport analogy makes so much sense! Thanks for explaining it this way - finally understand why there's that gap between "funded" and deposit.

So does this mean that even after SBTPG shows funded, they're still holding our money for 1-2 days before sending it to our banks? That seems like they're just sitting on our money to earn interest.

Is the trace number visible somewhere in the SBTPG portal? I can see mine shows funded but I don't see any trace number anywhere.

This explanation is exactly what I needed! Been staring at my SBTPG account for days wondering what's happening behind the scenes.

For anyone still waiting, here's what I've learned from 5 years of tracking this process: 1. SBTPG funding to bank deposit typically takes 1-5 business days 2. Online banks like Chime and Cash App often receive deposits 1-2 days faster than traditional banks 3. The trace number appearing is the most reliable indicator that your deposit is imminent (usually within 24 hours) 4. SBTPG status updates don't always happen in real-time - sometimes they update after your deposit has already arrived 5. Regional processing does seem to exist - Southeast tends to process slightly faster than Northeast or West Coast 6. If your status hasn't changed in 7+ days, that's when you should consider calling Hope this helps someone avoid the stress I went through learning all this!
