State Refund Arrived Today - Federal (DD 3/12) Still Pending - Chime Users Check In
Just wanted to provide an update that might be helpful for others in a similar situation. My state refund was deposited at approximately 1:51pm today, which is somewhat earlier than I had anticipated. However, I'm still waiting on my federal refund, which has a direct deposit date of 3/12. I'm wondering if perhaps other Chime users could check in with their experiences, particularly those who also have a 3/12 deposit date? It would be quite useful to establish a pattern of when deposits are typically being received.

According to IRS Publication 2043 (section 4.2), direct deposit dates are generally accurate, but financial institutions may have different processing schedules. The IRS typically releases funds 1-2 business days before the listed DD date, but have you verified that your tax transcript shows code 846 with the 3/12 date? Without confirmation of that specific code, there's a possibility your refund could still be in processing status.

I'm in a similar boat and pretty stressed about timing. Here's what I've learned about Chime specifically: 1. First, check your WMR for the official date (sounds like you already did) 2. Then, look at your transcript for code 846 to confirm 3. Typically, Chime releases funds 1-2 days before the official date 4. BUT this tax season I've noticed Chime deposits are coming exactly on the DD date more often I'm watching mine closely too since I really need this money for some bills coming due...

Have you checked the Chime subreddit? There's actually a daily deposit thread where people post when their tax refunds hit. From what I've been tracking, Chime users with 3/12 dates started seeing deposits yesterday afternoon, with most coming in between 1-4pm. Are you using the same bank account you used last year? Sometimes account verification can add a slight delay.

This is exactly right. I've been tracking 126 different Chime deposit reports across various forums, and 68.3% of users received their federal refunds precisely 1 day before their scheduled date. The remaining 31.7% received them either on the exact date or up to 2 days early. Not a single report of a delay beyond the scheduled date for verified 846 code recipients.

I've seen this pattern repeatedly over the past three tax seasons. The federal deposit timing with Chime is frustratingly inconsistent compared to traditional banks. Last year, I waited 9 days past my DD date and spent hours trying to reach the IRS to confirm nothing was wrong. When I finally gave up on the regular IRS line and used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c), I got through in about 15 minutes and learned there was a minor verification flag that wasn't showing on WMR. I'm skeptical of most shortcuts, but having someone actually answer the phone when you're anxious about your money is worth it.

I believe I might be able to help explain what's happening with your specific situation. The state and federal refund systems operate on completely separate processing schedules, which is why you received your state refund first. For Chime accounts specifically, there appears to be a potential pattern this tax season where: ā¢ If your DD date falls on a Tuesday (like your 3/12), deposits typically arrive Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning ā¢ The system seems to process batches around 10am, 2pm, and 4pm Eastern ā¢ Some users report that checking your Chime account too frequently can sometimes delay the notification It's perfectly normal to still be waiting, and I wouldn't be concerned unless it hasn't arrived by the end of day tomorrow. I hope this helps ease your mind somewhat during this waiting period.

According to the IRS2Go app and several reputable tax forums, Chime's early deposit feature works differently with government refunds than with regular paychecks. The IRS sends refunds in batches, not continuously throughout the day. If you check the Chime subreddit, you'll see most people with 3/12 dates are still waiting too. The real pattern I've noticed from tracking these posts is that your state's processing efficiency has little correlation with federal timing. Don't stress unless you pass your actual DD date without receiving funds.
