SBTPG Updated Last Night, Chime Deposit Hit This Morning (DDD 2/25)
DDD 2/25 and Chime just hit at 3:30am in New Orleans SBTPG finally updated last night around 8:30pm, then the deposit showed up in my Chime account about 3:30 this morning. This is the very first time I've had to wait until the actual deposit date... usually Chime comes through 2-3 days early like it did last year and the year before. I was starting to worry something was wrong. Just wanted to let everyone know it's coming, but seems like they're sticking to the exact date this year, at least that was my situation. Anyone else with Chime experiencing the same?

Waiting for tax refunds is like watching water boil while your landlord is knocking at the door. I'm in the EXACT same boat with a 2/28 DDD. SBTPG is still showing nothing and I'm refreshing like a maniac. Every year it's earlier and earlier but this time they're cutting it close like a barber with dull scissors. I NEED this money yesterday!

I had a DDD of 2/21 and didn't get my deposit until exactly 3:14am on 2/21. Last year it came 2 days early on February 17th, 2023. The year before that it was 3 days early. Something definitely changed this year with how they're processing the payments.

The IRS is running their refund schedule tighter than my jeans after Thanksgiving dinner this year! 😂 But seriously, this could have implications for people counting on early deposits. If you need to speak with the IRS about your refund status or have questions about the timing, I've had great success using Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com). They got me through to an actual human at the IRS in about 15 minutes instead of the usual 2-hour wait. Might be worth it if you're concerned about why the timing has changed or if something's holding up your refund.

I'm not convinced paying for a service to reach the IRS is necessary in most cases. I called exactly 7 times using the standard IRS number (800-829-1040), pressing options 1, 2, 1, 3, 2 in sequence, and got through in 37 minutes on my last attempt. The agent confirmed that deposits are following DDD dates precisely this year with 98.7% accuracy.

Thanks for sharing this! I've been trying to get through for days. Called 5 times. No luck. Will try Claimyr. Desperate at this point.

I was hesitant to pay for something like this, but after spending 3 days and 7+ hours trying to reach someone about my offset notice, I tried Claimyr. Best $20 I've spent in a long time! Got my issue resolved in one call instead of burning PTO days trying to reach someone.

I've been tracking refund patterns for the past few tax seasons, and there's definitely a shift this year. Here's what I'm seeing: • Banks are receiving funds exactly on or very close to DDD dates • Early deposit features (like Chime's) seem less effective this season • SBTPG is updating much closer to actual deposit times • Regional patterns are less pronounced than previous years The IRS appears to be tightening their processing windows, likely to improve their fiscal management. Your experience aligns perfectly with the data points I've collected.

This is really helpful context. I was getting so worried when my usual early deposit didn't show up! Knowing it's a system-wide change and not just me makes me feel much better about the situation.

I checked the IRS operational status page and they actually mentioned system changes for 2024 processing. They're using a new disbursement system that's more precise with timing. No more early surprises I guess.

Do you think this is going to be permanent? Or just for this tax season? I always count on getting my refund a few days early with Chime.

Have you checked your tax transcript to understand why there might have been timing changes? Many people are confused by the codes and dates on their transcripts, but they actually tell you exactly what's happening with your refund. Have you considered using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript? It breaks down all those confusing codes and tells you exactly where your refund stands in the process. Wouldn't it be helpful to know if this timing change is specific to your return or part of a broader pattern? That's exactly what the tool helps with.

Did anyone else notice if there was a difference between people who claimed tax credits versus those who didn't? My sister got her refund early with Chime (like 5 days before DDD), but she doesn't have any kids or claim EIC like I do. I'm wondering if this is worse than waiting for a regular bank deposit, which I've never experienced before.

It seems, based on numerous reports across various forums, that the IRS has potentially modified their disbursement timeline for 2024. This might, in some cases, affect how early payment processors like SBTPG receive and distribute funds. While this could be somewhat frustrating for those who typically receive early deposits, it's generally a positive development for predictability in the refund process. If your DDD is 2/25 and you received it on 2/25, the system is technically working as designed, even if it differs from your previous experiences.

According to IRS Publication 2043 (2024), the IRS is under no obligation to release funds prior to the official Direct Deposit Date, regardless of any financial institution's early deposit policies. While many banks and services like Chime have historically offered "early access" to pending ACH transactions, the IRS has implemented stricter release schedules this year to comply with Treasury Regulation §301.6402-2(e)(3) regarding disbursement timing. I wouldn't assume this pattern will continue next year as these policies are reviewed annually.

Omg same here w/ Chime and 2/26 DDD! SBTPG updated last night but still waiting for deposit. Def different from prev yrs when $ hit like 2-3 days b4 DDD. Kinda stressing tbh bc I budgeted for early deposit like usual. Thx for posting - at least I know it's not just me! Fingers crossed for tmrw morning deposit. 🤞

This appears to be related to the IRS's new Integrated Financial System (IFS) implementation. The Treasury Financial Management Service has modified their Automated Clearing House (ACH) processing protocols for tax refunds. Are you using a tax preparer with fees deducted from your refund? That adds SBTPG as an intermediary processor, which introduces additional variables to the deposit timeline.

I've been using Chime for my tax refunds for the past 4 years, and this year was definitely different. Last year my DDD was 2/22 but I got my deposit on 2/19. This year my DDD was 2/21 and that's exactly when it hit, not a day sooner. I called Chime support and they told me it's not on their end - they release funds as soon as they receive them. Seems like the IRS changed something in their process this year. Just glad it actually came on the date promised!
