Child Support Offset on Tax Refund - Will I Get the Remaining Balance?
Filed my taxes and i know i have back child support. My refund is supposed to be 7k but i only owe like 3k in support. Anyone know if ill get the remaining 4k or does the whole thing get eaten up? Been checking transcripts daily but cant make sense of the codes.

Yes, you will receive the remainder after the child support offset. The Treasury Offset Program (TOP) only takes the amount you owe in back child support. If your refund is $7000 and you owe $3000, you should receive the remaining $4000. The timing might be delayed though, as offset refunds typically take an additional 2-3 weeks to process after the initial refund date.

make sure u call the TOP offset number (800-304-3107) to verify the exact amount u owe so u can do the math
