This is actually pretty common rn - the IRS is doing verification checks on returns, especially ones with tax credits. They're basically double checking your income, withholding, and credits to make sure everything adds up. You're looking at about a 60 day wait while they do their thing. I ran into this last year and honestly the waiting game is rough. Quick tip - I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it helped me understand exactly what was triggering the and gave me a timeline estimate that was spot on. You can check it out at https://taxr.ai if you want more specifics about your situation.

•Thanks for the heads up about taxr.ai! I'm in a similar situation - been waiting about 3 weeks now and getting anxious. Did you have to pay anything to use it or is it free? Also curious if it helped you prep for what the IRS might ask for if they need more documentation.

•Just wanted to chime in as someone new here - I'm dealing with the exact same verification message! Filed about 3 weeks ago and got this notice. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring. Sounds like this is super common right now and most people do get their refunds eventually. The waiting is brutal though! Thanks to everyone sharing their timelines and tips - really helps to know I'm not alone in this 😅

Hello Stephanie:) It appears they are reviewing your accuracy for your return that you submitted. This is happening to many people at this time so I would not worry. You can however call them for clarity and make sure they have all the documentation they need just to be on the safe side. If you had or EITC credits it could be for that as well. Many will not see those refunds until end of February, Early March time-frame.

To all those having trouble reaching a human at IRS. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

This is a standard verification that the IRS does to confirm the accuracy of your return. It's frustrating but very common, especially if you claimed credits like the Earned Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit. The key things to know: 1) You don't need to do anything right now unless they contact you directly, 2) The 60-day timeframe is pretty firm - calling before then usually won't speed things up, 3) Make sure you have copies of all your supporting documents just in case they request them later. I went through this last year and it was nerve-wracking, but my refund eventually came through without any issues. Hang in there!

I went through this exact same thing last year and it's definitely nerve-wracking! The IRS has been doing a lot more verification reviews lately, especially on returns with certain tax credits. From my experience, the 60-day timeline they give you is pretty accurate - mine took about 55 days total. The hardest part is just waiting it out since calling them before the 60 days usually doesn't give you any new information. Make sure you keep all your tax documents handy (W-2s, 1099s, receipts for credits you claimed) just in case they do reach out for additional documentation. In most cases though, if everything on your return is accurate, you'll just get your refund after the period without them needing anything else from you. Stay patient - I know it's easier said than done when you're waiting for your money!
