I got this when I used Where’s my refund. What does it mean?  Am I going to be audited? We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe. We understand your tax is very important and we are working to process your return as quickly as possible. Please read the following information related to your tax situation: • Tax Topic 152. Information Please Note: For information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to status are made no more than once a day.

Tax pro here with some insight on this. The 'delayed beyond normal timeframe' message with Tax Topic 152 is actually pretty common, especially for returns with credits like EITC or CTC. It doesn't automatically mean you're being - it's more like your return got flagged for additional review. This could be for identity verification, income verification, or just random selection. I've been seeing tons of these lately and most resolve within 2-3 months. To get more clarity on your specific situation, I'd recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that can analyze your transcripts and tell you exactly what's causing the delay and when you might see movement. Way more detailed than the WMR tool.

Hi Shay, It can mean anything, someone actually had that same message - she called IRS and her routing number or account number was off by 1. If it’s been like that for a week or so I suggest calling and seeing what it is. :) $5 discount for first callers using Claimyr https://join.claimyr.com/be256b

Hey Shay! Don't panic - this message doesn't automatically mean you're getting audited. The "delayed beyond normal timeframe" with Tax Topic 152 is super common, especially if you claimed credits like EITC, Child Tax Credit, or Additional Child Tax Credit. The IRS has to do extra verification on these returns by law, which can add 8-12 weeks to processing time. It could also be something simple like a math error, missing form, or identity verification. I'd suggest checking your IRS account transcript online to see if there are any notices or codes that might give you more insight into what's causing the delay. Hang in there!

Thanks Sophie! That's really helpful to know about the EITC and CTC verification requirements. I did claim the Child Tax Credit this year so that might explain it. How do I check my IRS account transcript online? Is that different from the Where's My tool?
