Can someone file my 2023 taxes without my permission? Worried about identity theft

Just checked my IRS account and noticed there might be some activity for 2023. I haven't filed yet and I'm worried someone might have filed taxes using my info. How can I find out if someone filed for me? What steps should I take to protect myself?

You need to check your tax transcripts ASAP. If someone filed under your SSN, it will show up there. Contact the IRS Identity Theft department immediately at 800-908-4490 if you see any suspicious activity. Also file Form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) if you confirm unauthorized filing.

You can request them online at irs.gov/transcripts, by mail, or call 800-908-9946. If website gives errors, try early morning or late night when traffic is lower

Hey there! I was in the same boat last month and discovered taxr.ai - it's seriously a game changer. For $1 it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your account, including any suspicious activity. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

100% legit! Used it myself and it caught something I would've missed. The AI breaks everything down super clearly

File a police report immediately! Had this happen to me in 2022 and it was a nightmare to fix 😫

did you ever get it resolved? how long did it take?

took about 9 months but finally got it fixed. document EVERYTHING

Check if any of your employers sent W2s already. Sometimes the IRS system shows activity when they receive income documents, even if no return is filed yet.
