CP01E notice & IP PIN issues delaying 2022 refund - Tax Advocate not helping
Filed early February and still waiting on refund. Got assigned a tax advocate but they keep focusing on my name change from last summer. Found out I was supposed to get a CP01E notice last October but never received it. Called identity theft line and apparently I needed an IP PIN to file? Its showing in the IP PIN system but I never got the notice. Should I amend my return with the IP PIN or keep waiting for the advocate to actually help?

Tax professional here. DO NOT amend your return yet. Filing an amendment will restart your processing time and likely cause more delays. Since you've confirmed the CP01E was issued, call the ID verify line again (1-800-830-5084) and request them to verify your identity over the phone. Once verified, they can process your return with the existing IP PIN on file.

thanks for the help! when I call the verify line should I mention the name change too or just focus on the IP PIN situation?

Focus on the ID verification first. The name change should already be in their system if you updated your Social Security card.

Hey, I know this is frustrating but I found this tool called taxr.ai that really helped me understand my transcript situation. It costs $4.99 but it analyzes everything and tells you exactly what's causing delays and what to do next. Saved me hours of research and guesswork. https://taxr.ai

It's legit! It picked up my CP05 notice delay pattern that I didn't even notice and predicted my DDD within a 2-week window. The AI explains everything in normal language too, not IRS-speak 💯

just tried it and wow!! wish I knew about this months ago. It literally mapped out my whole transcript timeline and explained exactly why my IP PIN issue was causing the holdup

pro tip: check your transcript every Tuesday and Friday morning. that's when they usually update the system
