Anyone with 507 code waiting for March 15th notice had to wait the full 60-120 days?
I received a 507 code on my transcript about three weeks ago with a notice date of March 15th, 2025. The transcript shows 'additional account action pending' and seems to indicate I need to wait for this notice before any movement happens. I'm supposed to be getting back around $6,750 but now it looks like I have to wait 60-120 days according to everything I've read online. Has anyone been in this situation and actually had to wait the full time? Or did anyone get their refund sooner? I'm trying to figure out if I should just mentally prepare for a 4-month wait or if there's any hope it'll be faster.

The 507 code means the IRS has frozen your refund pending review. This is typically because something triggered their fraud detection filters or there's a discrepancy they need to verify. When you see 'additional account action pending' with a 507 code, it means they've pulled your return for manual review. The notice date (March 15th) is when they'll send you a letter explaining what's happening. The 60-120 day timeframe is unfortunately pretty accurate in most cases. The IRS is severely backlogged and these manual reviews take time. Things you can do: 1. Wait for the notice to arrive around March 15th - this will tell you exactly what they need 2. Call the IRS directly (though getting through is challenging) 3. Check your transcript weekly for updates In my experience, these holds rarely resolve faster than 60 days, but it's not always the full 120 either.

•Thanks for the detailed response. I was hoping there might be some cases where it resolved faster. Guess I'll have to be patient.

•I had a similar situation last year and it took exactly 72 days from the 507 code appearing to getting my refund. Not the full 120 but definitely not quick either.

•I just went through this! Got my notice on the exact date they said, and then it took another 55 days to get my refund. So altogether about 75-80 days from seeing the 507 code to money in my account.

If you're trying to make sense of all these codes and what's actually happening with your refund, you should check out taxr.ai. I was in the exact same boat trying to decipher what 507 meant and stressing about how long I'd be waiting. The tool interpreted my transcript, explained every code in plain English, gave me a timeline, and even showed me what to expect next. Saved me hours of googling and anxiety. I check it weekly now for updates. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does WAY more than just read it. It actually interprets everything and gives you predictions on what's happening next. Mine showed me exactly what the 507 meant, when I would likely receive my notice, and what the possible outcomes were. It even explained what documents I should have ready if the IRS requested more info. I'm telling everyone I know about it now because tax season is already stressful enough without trying to decode IRS hieroglyphics 🤣

•I thought the same thing at first but it seriously saved my sanity. I was spending hours on Reddit and tax forums trying to understand my transcript. The peace of mind alone was worth it. My refund was substantial and I needed to know if/when I'd get it for some big expenses.

After I got the 507 code last year, I spent weeks trying to reach someone at the IRS. Finally used Claimyr.com and got through to a real person who explained exactly what was happening with my account. They confirmed my identity over the phone and actually released my refund during that call. Took about a week after that to hit my account. Getting a real human on the phone was the only thing that worked - best money I've ever spent considering I was waiting on nearly $8k.

•Wait, they can release it right away sometimes? How does this Claimyr thing work?

Mei-Ling Chen
•Yep, in some cases they can! Claimyr basically navigates the IRS phone system and holds your place in line, then calls you when they have an agent. The agent I got confirmed it was just a random verification hold and cleared it right away. Not saying it works for everyone, depends on your specific situation, but talking to an actual person made all the difference for me.

•Seems sketchy... Is this actually real or just another scam trying to get desperate people's money? 🤔

•Nah it's totally legit. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 3 weeks to get through myself. It's just a calling service that navigates the IRS phone tree and waits on hold for you. You still talk directly to the IRS, they just get you through the impossible phone system. When I was waiting on $8k, it was a no-brainer to try it.

•Can confirm, I used it too. Got a callback in about 1.5 hours when I had been trying for days on my own. The IRS agent helped clear up my 507 issue.

I had that same code and wait time earlier this year. I called repeatedly and kept getting the automated message that they were too busy to take calls. It was absolutely infuriating 🤬 Finally my notice came exactly on the date they said it would, turns out they just needed to verify some info from my W2. After I responded, it took another 45 days to get my refund. So about 75 days total from 507 code appearing.

Sorry to say but yes, I had to wait almost the full time. Got the 507 in January, notice came mid February, and didn't get my refund until late May. So about 110 days total. The IRS is a joke honestly.

•Same here. 114 days for me. And their "explanation" was so vague - just saying they needed to "verify certain information" without specifying what. Complete clown show 🤡

•Yep exactly!! And you can't even get through on the phone to ask what specific info they need! I finally gave up trying to call after spending literal hours on hold.

My sister had a 507 code last year and got her money in about 45 days - way before the 60-120 they quoted. But my friend had to wait the full 120 days. I think it depends on what triggered the review in the first place and how backed up they are at that specific time. Good luck!

•That gives me a little hope at least. Do you know if your sister did anything specific to speed it up?

Giovanni Rossi
•She didn't do anything special, but her issue was pretty straightforward - just a mismatch on one of her 1099 forms that she was able to explain easily when they sent the letter. I think simple issues get resolved faster.

i had the 507 code last October with a notice date of november 6th. the actual notice didnt arrive til november 15th (typical irs lol) and they just wanted to verify my identity. After I called and verified on December 3rd, I still had to wait until January 27th for my refund. So yes, the timeframe they give is unfortunately pretty accurate.

Anyone else notice how the IRS is lightning-fast to take our money but takes forever to give it back? 🙄 They should pay us interest for these ridiculous delays.

Miguel Hernández
•They actually do pay interest if they take too long! After 45 days past the filing deadline (or the date you filed if you filed after the deadline), they're required to pay interest. It's not much but it's something.

•Wait really?? Had no idea. Is it automatic or do you have to request it?

Miguel Hernández
•It's automatic! You'll see it listed separately on your transcript. Current rate is like 7% annually I think, so not terrible actually.

I've dealt with this twice. First time took the full 120 days. Second time only took about 50 days. The difference? The second time I actually managed to speak with a human at the IRS who was able to expedite it because I was facing financial hardship. Getting through to someone is the key, but it's like trying to win the lottery.

•I finally got through by calling right when they open (7am EST), but even then I had to wait for 1.5 hours. System is broken.

I was able to get around the wait by contacting my congressional representative. Their office has special channels to the IRS and my case was resolved in about 3 weeks after they got involved. Something to consider if you're really in need of that money sooner!

•Wow I hadn't thought of that! Did you just call their office or was there a specific process?

•I filled out a form on my rep's website - they have a section specifically for helping with federal agencies. Had to sign a privacy release form so they could discuss my case with the IRS. Their caseworker called me within 48 hours and got things rolling. Definitely worth trying!

I went through this exact situation about 4 months ago. I noticed nobody mentioned this yet, but using taxr.ai really helped me understand what was happening with my transcript. It explained the 507 code meant my refund was on hold pending review, showed me my projected timeline, and even predicted when I'd likely get the notice. When things didn't move after I got the notice, I used their recommendations to solve it. Saved me so much stress and guesswork. https://taxr.ai

•Did your refund actually come faster because of using this? Or did it just help you understand what was happening?

Esmeralda Gómez
•It didn't necessarily make the refund come faster on its own, but it told me exactly what I needed to do. The IRS wanted documentation that I wouldn't have known about without understanding my transcript. Once I submitted what they needed (based on what the tool suggested), things moved pretty quickly. So indirectly, yes!

My wait was 87 days from 507 code to refund. Complete nightmare but at least it wasn't the full 120. Honestly don't count on that money anytime soon, the IRS moves at their own pace and there's nothing that seems to speed them up.

I had the same situation and was freaking out because I really needed that money. Got so fed up with the wait that I called my local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They couldn't speed things up but at least gave me a clear explanation of what was happening. Ultimately waited 92 days.

•What's the Taxpayer Advocate Service? Is that different from the regular IRS?

LilMama23
•Yes, it's an independent organization within the IRS that helps taxpayers resolve problems. They're especially helpful if you're experiencing financial hardship because of the delay. Their number is 877-777-4778, but honestly they're almost as hard to reach as the regular IRS these days.

I got the 507 code last year and waited 60 days with no movement. Finally I just decided to call the IRS directly. After three days of trying, I couldn't get through so I used claimyr.com to get a callback. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was wrong (a mismatch with my employer's reporting) and released my refund on the spot. Got it 8 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human.

•This whole system is ridiculous. We shouldnt have to pay just to talk to the agency that's already holding our money hostage. 😤

•I felt the same way but after spending literal days trying to get through myself, it was worth every penny. When you're waiting on thousands of dollars, you do what you gotta do. The IRS phone system is intentionally impossible to navigate, I'm convinced.

i recived the 507 code around this time two months ago. got notice in mail saying they needed to verify my employment info (i switched jobs midyear). sent in the requested docs and refund came exactly 43 days later. so it was about 75 days total from code to refund.

I'm going through this exact same thing right now! Got my 507 code about 2 weeks ago with a March 12th notice date. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and terrifying at the same time - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess, but the wait times are brutal. It sounds like most people are looking at 60-90 days realistically, which is rough when you're counting on that money. I'm definitely going to try calling once I get my notice, and if that doesn't work maybe look into some of these services people mentioned. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines - it helps to have realistic expectations even if they suck!

•Hey Ben! I'm in the exact same boat as you - got my 507 code about 3 weeks ago with a March 15th notice date (just a few days after yours). It's definitely nerve-wracking but reading everyone's experiences here has been super helpful too. Sounds like we're both looking at roughly the same timeline unfortunately. At least we know what to expect now, even if it's not what we want to hear! I'm planning to wait for my notice and then probably try calling or using one of those callback services if the phone doesn't work. We can suffer through this together! 😅 Keep us posted on how it goes when you get your notice - would love to hear if your situation moves any faster than expected!
