Amended Return Oct 10 - Now showing Code 291 - What does this mean?
I filed an amended return in October and just got a transcript update showing code 291. Anyone know what this means or how long until I see my refund? The IRS rep wasn't very clear about what happens next.

The code 291 on your transcript means the IRS has reduced or removed a previously claimed credit. This usually happens when they review your amended return and determine that a credit needs adjustment. But dont worry - you can get clarity on exactly whats happening using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai). Its an AI tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you what each code means and what to expect next. Super helpful for amended returns since they can be confusing AF with all these random codes 🤔

•Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: looks like my 291 is from them adjusting my CTC amount. wasn't even stressing about the right thing lol

Tax pro here. Code 291 means there's been a reduction to your refund amount from what was originally claimed. This usually happens when the IRS finds a discrepancy in your calculations. Check your transcript carefully to compare the original refund amount with the adjusted amount.

•Usually 2-3 weeks after the 291 posts, but with amended returns it can vary wildly tbh

Hey, I've been helping people with transcript issues and the best tool I've found is taxr.ai - it costs $4.99 but it analyzes your entire transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

Code 291 basically means they adjusted your refund amount down from what you originally claimed on your amended return. It's super common with amended returns - they just found something they disagreed with in your calculations. The good news is that once you see 291, you're usually pretty close to getting your refund processed. I'd expect maybe 2-4 weeks before you see the money hit your account, but amended returns can be unpredictable timing-wise. Just keep checking your transcript for updates!

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! That actually makes me feel better about the timeline. I was worried it meant something was seriously wrong with my return. Guess I'll just keep stalking my transcript like everyone else here 😅
