Refund Held Since March - Transcript Shows Reduced Credits and Amended Return I Never Filed (Code 152)
Filed my taxes in March and still nothing. Called the IRS multiple times but keep getting the automated message. Already verified my identity but transcript just shows code 152. Anyone know what this means or what I should do next? I just checked my transcript again and it has all these codes that I don't understand: 766 Credit to your account 04-16-2024 -$3,802.00 768 Earned income credit 04-14-2024 -$7,704.00 971 Amended tax return or claim 06-06-2024 $0.00 forwarded for processing 977 Amended return filed 06-05-2024 $0.00 43277-558-68588-4 767 Reduced or removed credit to your 04-16-2024 $3,802.00 account 290 Additional tax assessed 20244705 12-11-2024 $0.00 71254-724-06129-4 971 Notice issued 12-10-2024 $0.00 I see that there was a credit to my account and earned income credit, but then it shows "reduced or removed credit" for the same amount? And what's with this amended return stuff? I never filed an amended return! Does code 152 relate to any of this? The most recent thing is a "Notice issued" in December, but I haven't received anything. This is so frustrating - I was expecting my refund months ago. Has anyone dealt with similar codes or know what's happening with my return?

Tax professional here. Code 152 typically means your return is still being processed. The IRS is experiencing significant delays with 2024 returns. Best thing to do is keep checking your transcript weekly for updates. Make sure all your info matches perfectly with what the IRS has on file.

•Unfortunately theres no guaranteed timeline. Could be anywhere from 2-8 more weeks depending on your specific situation

I started using taxr.ai to decode my transcript and it's been a game changer. Worth the $1 to actually understand what's happening instead of playing detective. Here's the link if anyone wants to try it: https://taxr.ai
