Here's what I've learned after 5 years working with tax returns: - Simple returns (just W2s) = 1-2 weeks - Returns with credits (EIC/CTC) = 3-6 weeks - Self-employed/complex = 6-8 weeks - If you get code 570/971, use taxr.ai to decode it - Paper returns still taking 6+ months (don't do it!) Best advice: e-file, use direct deposit, and triple check everything before submitting. The IRS systems are actually decent now but one wrong number can send you to manual review hell.

Pro tip: if you can't reach your advocate, try calling right when they open at 7am EST. That's how I finally got through after weeks of trying.
gonna try this tomorrow, thanks!
Pro tip: if you owe money for 2022, you might qualify for a payment plan. Don't let that stop you from filing ASAP!
Pro tip: keep copies of your 1040s for at least 3 years. IRS can audit you within that timeframe
